Time for some PM's to all the people who've been to the gatherings to get them to vote!

These skis should go to a long time contributor not a new politician.  Sorry Jacques, nothing personal, but how can you deserve these more then UL (or Lars or BWPA?)
Facebook friends are about three clicks away from voting.  Post the link to this thread you your FB pages and ask your friends to go here and vote for UL then post the link on their FB pages for all their friends to go vote for UL

no no no!  This is for epicski members, not whoever we can dredge up to stuff the ballot box!

the contest says "which one is most deserving "
not which one is the most clever!

crg you've been here a long time, over 11,000 posts, how would you feel if a newbie got a bunch of strangers to come in and vote for them?

Again Jacques, nothing personal, but "deserving" just doesn't fit you here,  "funny"  "clever" "resourceful" "ambitious" yes.

UL or Lars or even the humble bwpa are deserving.  Even crg based on his contributions in posts.

My vote would be for UL or Lars for their contributions to epicski.

Sorry your upset.  Here is the truth from a "private" message from this site  Quote: You know my wife wears the cheetah vest, and the gold alligator pants!   I'm the fool in the orange helmet.  We should be there by 10am. That's early for us!   Be good, and I guess Uncle Louie will win, but it would make even him feel better if it was tighter!   See ya : End Quote

Although I have not been here long, Uncle Louie has shown me respect here, and I to him as well.  That's what it's all about!   I'm not perfect, but I try not to put my foot in my "mouth"

Now really, IF I won (highly unlikely) don't you think I would know what to do?

That's why I'm here!
Jacques, I have no idea what that quote means, and I'm not upset, just perturbed I guess.  That's just me and I'm sorry.  Honestly I like you from what I've seen.  There's just a lot of history here on epicski and your effective politicking and legitimate chance to win this contest just rubs me the wrong way when people have given so much for so many years to make epicski what it is.

I look forward to getting to know you over the months and years to come here on epic.  Again, I'm sorry.  I'm known in these here parts for saying what I think, and believe me I've rubbed people the wrong way too!

I suspect that is already what is happening.  Part of the intent of any forum contest should be to bring in new members.  Getting out FB friends to check this out by inviting them to vote for a friend is perfectly within the rules.  I had a couple people do it, most are skiers.  I'm betting I'm not the only one.  Ask your FB friends to log in to this site via FB or join without linking if that is what it takes to drum up more votes for Uncle Louie.
nope.  hopefully enough folks representative of epic and it's long history will chime in.
Well, complaining about the whole silly thing isn't making any friends here. And if you want to be technical, UL shouldn't qualify because he never followed the rules, which changed along the way. His wife nominated him, he didn't state his case as nolo originally stated. Of course, me saying this will be deemed as sour grapes or a sore loser type of thing. And then, how bad does it look for me when you've been here for ten years and you are getting crushed by a newbie with 66 posts? When it all comes down to it, it should have been about who could come up with the best ski design, not who could come up with the most votes. But then I would have given it the same sidecut as a Rossi B2 with the old Rossi 4S colors. That would have gagged all the Rossi haters here. If I withdraw and give my votes to BWIPA, will be also known as a quitter? Ah who cares? I'm pissed that we got 2 days of rain that killed our packed powder base and couldn't ski all weekend. Oh and really, there's only been one candidate who has even given any idea for a ski design.

And it all comes down to this can I give my votes to Josh?

Skiing was great today in Massachusetts!  Rained in the morning, soft snow, then sun in the afternoon.  One of the best days I've had in a while!
SkiMangoJazz, no problem.  You should speak your mind, and influence as many as you can.
Now, I hope you will know what this means.
I've made it shorter : Uncle Louie will win, but it would make even him feel better if it was tighter!
Be good.  I respect you, and what you do here for fellow skiers.  That's what EPIC SKI is all about.  Sure, it's easy to just post a link to some other site when trying to help someone here.  Like a person has a waxing question.  Just link him to the "Bozo wax company" site!

Easy!   One might say "That moron has a computer, can't he find the info!"

I don't think that's the spirit of this site, or maybe I'm wrong.  Throwing them a link is great, but I think people want to feel a connection to others when asking for help etc.  And others thrive on giving out their knowledge.  Then the debates are great as well.

OK, this is banter now Bla, bla, bla     Hope you all know me better now.

Hang in there Lars!  You never know what could arrive at your door!   Yes, I was a little confused about the contest.  I did not hand in a design, or even say why I should design them.   I just jumped in.  Personally I don't think any of us NEED these skis.  I still do fine on my very old skis
.
I say let the person with the most votes decide who will be the first ever EPIC SKI owner!

Thread Starter

We have a couple more days until the poll closes.

This is probably not the last contest we'll ever have, as long as they're perceived as fun and entertaining. If this contest is upsetting to anyone, then I guess I should have kept the skis for myself. I thought it would be fun to invite people to compete within the confines of the forum to win the chance to own a pair of skis of one's own original design. In the spirit of keeping it fun, we didn't disqualify anyone for using too many words, we allowed Uncle Louie's second-person entry to stand, and we've been completely lenient in letting the contest GO.

Let's have fun with it!

it's called, wearing your heart on your sleeve, I think we all know your intentions as mine and none of it is personal. You're a good egg SMJ.

aw shucks man, now I feel even worse that I didn't vote for you :)
OK it looks like this will be down to the wire tomorrow night. I'm most likely out and will take my kid skiing tomorrow. It will most likely be his first day skiing real trails from real lifts instead of most of the day on the carpet.

I can't wait to log in and see if the perennial favorite can hold off the dark horse at the finish.

I'm moving my support to the Uncle from Kentucky Candidate.
Did I mention my dad was from Shelbyville?

It's on like Donkey King!

And that sounds like a most excellent day, Charles!  Enjoy it, revel in it, and post some pictures of it too!  Next time I go to or by Shelbyville, I'll wave "hey!"

In spite of the mudslinging and general unrest about the noob doing well in the contest I would like to point out that Spookfish dropped in here last year and used their first post to enter and win a pair of skis from Sierra Jim.  They've hung around and become a quality member for time that has transpired since they won some skis here.  There is something to be said for "beginner's luck".
I vote for UL!!!!!!!!!!  Good luck Greg.
So if you win you get his skis and if he wins, he gets to keep his skis. Sounds fair.

Not that my opinion particularly matters...  But it is kind of dumb to have this decided by a poll, no offense.  It takes less than five minutes to get a new email address and register here.  If someone wanted to they could put in less than an hour and get a free set of custom skis.  It makes more sense to me to have the mods decide.  Sure they'd be biased but I imagine they'd also have the best idea of who helps out the site the most.

Naw......telerod.

The way it may work out....if Lar's wins he may get Jacques' skis and I'll just have to walk out from the bottom of 10 chair to the base of the area.

It's not quite as easy as that.  I'm pretty sure dchan can check the IP addresses against the member roll, so if all were done from the same IP address that would mean multiple personalities from the same address which violates membership rules here at Epic.

I think IN THE FUTURE there should be a minimum membership time.....maybe 6 months ?  Just so someone would have to be active here before entering any contest and same time limit for voting in one.

That's what I'm talking about!  Uncle Louie even knows how these machines work!   Uncle Louie, you are the man!   But vote for me anyway!

Nice thought about the voting.  I still think that driving traffic and recruiting new member s is a good thing.  As for the candidates.  I think we all have been here for over 6 months of more.  Some of us haven't exactly been here posting for 6 months in a row though.  Lots of forums use post count for privileges.

UL

Follow-Me” has a new meaning after skiing with UL :

^^Yes, I recall my need of that chair after following UL all day at Breck...

Sorry Lars, but you have no chance in a ski off with UL as this is all you’ll be seeing of him:

However, what I will bring to Vail 1/29/10 are some skiers that you’ll have to get by first before any further ski challenges you propose :

is there any way to split a vote between 2 deserving individuals?

also, for those of us late to the party because we've actually been out skiing, what's the deal with the skis? are they some mass market brand with a fancy Epic topsheet or are they some actual custom sticks?
Dookey, these are in deed, Pilote Custom Skis.
See the original contest announcement:

You know what you want in a ski. You've logged many miles on the slopes, demoed more than a few pairs of the latest and greatest, and maybe even reviewed them here on EpicSki. Here's your opportunity to exchange your wisdom for your wallet and actually design a pair of EPIC skis for a market of one, and that's YOU! Our own krp8128 (Kyle Pilote) will build the skis to your specifications with a topsheet designed by EpicSki's art director, Peter Galletta, if our panel of experts deems yours the winning entry in our exclusive Contest for the EPIC Skis. All you have to do is write a convincing argument in 300 words or less, with whatever eye candy you choose to include at no charge against the word count, in this thread by the midnight (MST) December 21 deadline. We'll run a poll in a companion thread that will go until midnight December 28, with the winner announced December 29. Must play to win!

Important note: The topsheet of the skis must be as pictured, the base color must be black, and the length must be 186 cm. or less. All other specifications are determined by the contest winner. However, if you want the skis to be longer than 186 cm., or to add carbon fiber or a metal layer to the skis, the following additional costs will apply. Otherwise, the skis are completely FREE OF CHARGE!

  1. Length over 186cm-$25
  2. Carbon Fiber-$50: A single layer of unidirectional carbon fiber added to stiffen the ski along it’s length.
  3. 7075 Aluminum-$125: Essentially generic Titanal®, used to stiffen the ski along both its length and in torsion (twisting), providing enhanced edge grip. Price is due to raw materials and working with caustic etching solution (required for proper bonding).

All you need to do to enter is:
  • Explain why you should design the first-ever pair of EPIC Skis in 300 words or less, images not included
  • Post your entry in this thread before midnight (MST) December 21
  • We'll run a poll to determine the winner which will run until midnight (MST) December 28
  • The winner will be announced December 29

hahaha this isnt a ski off....but Lars can ski(as can the short and getting apparently fatter UL:)). Kinda of pretty beat assumption to make that just cause UL skied YOU into the ground means that lars couldnt hang....
You know, nolo could generate some extra buzz and advertising for Pilote by mandating that the winner must have over 50% of the vote...leading to interminable runoffs, more ill will, possible fisticuffs, and maybe even a side by side ski-off down Corbet's that will violate basic rules of space and geometry...contestants will spend their personal fortunes travelling to campaign for precious votes, shaking ski gloves and kissing babies' helmets...when things are finally settled, the winner's great-grandson will accept the skis in his memory, and the "custom" skis will be shipped from Pilote Mega-Industries' 1000 acre plant in Shenzhen.

I'll take that bet with money on Lars in the bumps.  I'd guess the trees is even money.  I recall a thread or two mentioning that Epic tried to follow Lars through the trees and ended up with a cracked femur.  So, Lars VS Louie in the trees looks to be a dead heat t me.
