Activity feed problems

Thread Starter
When I select "subscriptions only" it is basically all wrong.  It shows old things, not new things, this seems to be the case more when there are no new posts on my subscriptions.

In addition it is showing the same thread more then once again in the list.  I don't know if I can trust the activity feed at all based on these issues.

Activity feed getting worse.  Multiple instances of the same posts.

Subscriptions only really out of whack, doesn't show recent things but old ones.

Dev team - are you seeing this thread?

seems like the dev team isn't following the bug report thread anymore.  maybe vacation?

activity feed is now useless doesn't even show everything recent.

The team is taking the holiday off until the 4th, SMJ. I'll ask them to look into the problem.

Are you seeing the problem on the activity feed on your home page or all new posts or both?

 Thanks nolo.

Both places at least as far as showing threads I'm subscribed to.

My primary means of accessing epic has always been all new posts, don't use the homepage because it doesn't have a mark all threads as read link, something I pointed out months ago.

1.  Access site all new posts.
2.  Go down the list command clicking on anything of interest opening it into a new tab.
3.  Go through the tabs and read the threads I've opened.
4.  Go back to the all new posts page and click mark as read so the next visit shows me where I left off.

I'm seeing the same behavior after clicking the "More" button.  I've reported the issue to our engineering team and will keep you posted on the progress.  In the meantime, feel free to go back to using the "Classic" All New Posts page.

Thanks!

The engineering team has found the issue and resolved it - it's still in testing so the fix isn't live on the site but I'll keep you posted when we get it live tomorrow.

thanks stins. what about the subscription issue is that fixed too?  that didn't have to do with the more button.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to replicate any subscription problems yet.  Can you give me more details about what you're seeing?  If you could provide any screen shots showing the incorrect content, that would be very helpful.

When you view your subscriptions, is the problem primarily occurring after you mark all forums read or is it constant, regardless of whether or not there is new content to you?

Thanks!

Attached is a screen grab.  I have many other subscriptions of more recent threads with more recent (but not new) posts.

This probably does occur after I mark all forums as read, as I always do that after looking at the new posts.  I believe threads with new content may still show up, I'm not sure, I'll watch for that.

Grab about 1/2 hour later.  Notice now it's covering a different period of time.

Grab 2 minutes later, yet a different time.

In addition at this point there are new posts in the thread "Ultimate Skiing" which I'm subscribed to, yet it doesn't even show up in this listing.

 More bug info.

When I go to my home page it shows the correct, most recent subscribed threads.

When I click on the "subscriptions" link, then click on it again, it acts like the "all new posts" page and shows older subscribed threads, not new ones.

It seems that it is the "subscriptions" link that is malfunctioning.

 Subscriptions Only link that is.

And as I said months ago, when you're looking at Subscriptions Only, that link should read "All new posts" or something else, then toggle back to "subscriptions only" when you're NOT looking at Subscriptions Only.

imo it's a bad interface to have that link there except as a link to display the Subscriptions Only.  Very confusing.

Ah ha, you're exactly right.  Thanks for the detailed information.  That was very helpful.  I just submitted a bug report for our engineering team.  I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Thanks stins.  I really like the activity feed.  I really like being able to (when I'm in a rush) only look at new posts on threads I'm subscribed to.  When I have more time though I like being able to look at all new posts.

The interface for the most part is much nicer then the classic one.

Thanks for the kind words!  I'm glad you're liking it.  We pushed a fix for the duplicate content issue last night - take a look and let me know if you see any more problems.

For the subscription issue, when you toggle it on, off and on again, it definitely lags in pulling up the most recent content.  However, about 30 seconds after you toggle it on, you'll see the small refresh icon to the right hand corner of the top of the feed.  Clicking here will pull up the most recent new content.  It's definitely a bug that when you toggle subscriptions only on and not having it do that in the first place; but the refresh button is a temporary work around.  I'll keep you posted on when we get a fix out.

got it and did it thanks.

still think when it's showing subscriptions that that link should toggle to different text "All Posts" or something.

I'll let you know if I run across any duplicate posts.

I'll definitely suggest it to the team.  We'll keep iterating on usability so never be shy about making suggestions.  Thanks!

Is this being addressed?  Waiting 30 seconds for the "refresh" icon to appear is getting a bit annoying.
It will be fixed with the next platform release.  We still have some work to do before we release that but hopefully it will be in about a week and a half.  I'll keep you posted on the ETA.

 Hey stins,

So it's gotten worse, now it's not just subscriptions but all new posts that are messed up.  It's become useless pretty much - which is sad because I have gotten very used to it and it's much nicer then the classic all new posts.

My listings are not chronological. Noticed it today.

In addition to the subscriptions activity feed above not sorting reverse chronologically, the new posts activity feed is failing to sort properly, too.

FWIW, the recent discussions list at the bottom of all pages does sort properly. So it probably isn't a damaged index.

Please acknowledge this is a problem with the site. I have used different computers and different browsers to no avail.
We're working on getting the feed sorting issues fixed ASAP.  I'll let you know when they're complete.  The issue is that the site mailer ran into a major blockage causing it to stall.  Our team has been working on getting that churning through the data again and as soon as that's through the feed will get back up to speed.  I'll let you know when it should be fixed.

Also, a fix for the off/on/off toggling of the Subscriptions Only button will be released in the 2.7 release this week.  Thanks for your patience.
Just a quick update on this, the team is still working on debugging the issue.  I'll keep you posted as I get more information.
The activity feeds and email notifications should all be up to date.  It turns out our email provider ran into some issues on their end which caused the problem but it should be looking much better now.

The activity feeds are working properly again, thanks.

Subscriptions only still needs the wait 30 seconds until the refresh icon appears and then click on it workaround for me.
That'll be fixed with the next release coming out in the next few days.  I'll let you know when it's up and running.  Thanks!
