oh dont worry it will all be groomed, have you thinned any woods?

FYI timberline, Wv is MEGA lame 16 inches of new snow and only 2 open trails?! WTF! you suck timberline and 16 inches of snow covers your grass easily.

Don't ruin my fantasy! Should be good though. It is supposed to be windy so should blow over a bit. This snow is as light as we have seen in a long time.

Roundtop is 80% open!

Any reason you are picking roundtop?  I'm debating where to go.... if I can even make it anywhere.  Wintergreen got pounded but similar to Timberline... they have no expert terrain open.... I mean... seriously?  I was thinking Whitetail..... I have only been to Snowshoe in the midatlantic, and that was last year around this time in the snow and the drive was awful... and that was only a few inches.

What would the best bet be for terrain/snow/convenience to dc?

 Or Blue Knob????

That is where I have my season pass (Roundtop/Liberty/Whitetail) but I only live about 15-20 minutes from Roundtop.

Normally I would say Whitetail for you from DC but it might be easier to get to Roundtop right now with the snow. Not sure.

So you think Whitetail would be a good bet?  It's tough to pass up 2-3 feet of snow at Wintergreen or even Massanutten but Whitetail may be easier to get to and have more terrain open.

Anyone been to the  Massanutten?  That's obviously pretty close as well.  But I haven't heard good things.

Is Blue Knob too far west for this storm?

<edit> just checked conditions report - guess not.  New Snow: (past 24 hours) 10-12"

Easy to get to might be important given the typical mid-atlantic plowing ineptness.

I think we're heading to Whitetail tomorrow.

Ok, so don't leave us hanging, how was Roundtop?

I'll be in WIlmington Xmas week as usual this year and have eyed Roundtop as a possible day trip for over a decade but have never gone there due to lack of early season snow.  Is this the year to Ski Roundtop?

I went to Whitetail... first time there.  It was pretty good.... packed powder with hard subsurface in areas.... they groomed everything but one 1 run so that kind of sucked.... but after seeing what people did to the 1 run that wasn't groomed perhaps they made the right choice... it got chewed up pretty quickly and the place was packed.... lift lines and trail traffic.  They claim they got 20" of snow but they definitely got less than downtown DC and we got about 20... I'd say they got more like 10-12.

Supposedly Liberty opened up their expert terrain for morning powder skiing, left it ungroomed and were scheduled to close it in the afternoon.  I'm interested to hear how that was.

Rain/freezing rain here, so I'll skip this one and go on Sunday. Or maybe I will go anyway. Dunno, not in a big hurry for that one.

Roundtop was great last weekend. Nice packed powder. They had one run that they didn't groom (Ramrod). Honestly though I wish they had groomed it. By 10 AM it was funky shaped bumps that result from side slipping with ice/thin in between. I skied 8-11. It was getting pretty crowded by 11 when I had to leave.

I'm debating whether to drive out to Wisp.

Probably JF on Sun, unless I see a clear reason to go somewhere else.
