trippin out west but need help

Hey everybody!
So a friend and I are making a fund that we are putting money from our jobs in so we can basically fund our own trip out west. We both have been out west a few times, him alot more than me though. I usually have hit up sugar mountain in January which is crazy!!! (as in crowded and dangerous) Anyways, we have been mainly thinking Breckenridge and Vail but i would really enjoy some ideas of places to go. We are yearning for some sweet powder and terrain. But, considering we don't make millions, i mean we are in high school, so we are very tight on money. Any ideas of places to go? Cheap but good lodging, cheap lifts, great snow-powder-terrain? We would either be flying out of Birmingham or Atlanta, pending if we fly southwest or whatever... Anyways, please give some throwback!!!

Vail & Breck are not cheap.  Think SLC or Reno/Tahoe.

Im a freshman in college, had to fund my own out west trip.  Got all lift tickets, lodging, transportation, and airfare via southwest for $765 a person out of Baltimore-Washington International.  Use their vacation planner - youll be suprised.

Where did you go?

Take the morning flight into SLC, maybe you can arrive before 11am, and ski that 1st half day, and do the same on the way out, take the 4 or 5pm flight back home.  That way you get in two good half days of skiing and save and on hotel.  Stay in either Sandy or MidVale, and rent a cheapo car on Orbitz.  But if it snows you might have some trouble getting up the canyon, but if you are really on a tight budget, you can get on the bus, but expected it to be crowded on a powder day.  Crystal Inn, La Quinta, Ext Stay America - all nice places and easy on wallet.  Probably cheaper for SLC vs. Reno because 1/2 days are easy in SLC on travel day, I have done it MANY times, change in the parking lot.  Also, flights to Reno are likely more expensive and you need a connection likely.  Delta goes direct from Atlanta.

SLC is a cheap choice.  But they are in High School.   I don't think they will be renting a car?
I know people do it, but IMHO,  SLC without a car is a PITA.

I would look at a cheap resort like Park City or Winter Park, were your not going to need a car.

Go to www.betterbidding.com and get some priceline bidding advice for SLC. Here are some recent winning bids from the site (including my own... sorry about the formating).  You'll want to bid where you can take the free bus that comes with the SLC Superpass.

Yeah, what we think we are now gonna do is take a visit to University of Denver with one of our parents and 'take a wrong turn' on to i 70 and turn up at some place like winter park for a day or 2 and maybe go out there again for our senior trip on spring break.
