Race Day in Val d'Isere

Does anyone happen to know which Swiss skier is sporting the long brownish-blonde hair and beard these days?

I got on the ski bus Saturday morning to see this guy in his race suit, Swiss team pull-over on top, skis and poles in hand. I didn't want to stop him on his way to the course, given that I wasn't sure which skier it was.

So, who here knows who it was I was standing next to?

BTW, visibility on race day was horrendous. I saw 5 guys crash in the 30 minutes of the race I watched. No one could see where they were going. At the medals ceremony (really cool, it has to be said), Ted Ligety said he was lucky to make it down without missing any gates.

After 30 minutes, I had to get back to skiing, so I went back to the lifts and headed to the far side of the mountain.

That's Marc Berthoud. Julian Lizeroux of France is rocking a similar look this season. I'm weighing it too...

Thanks for that.

When I first saw the hair and beard, I thought it was Lizeroux. But, then I saw the swiss outfit.

It's not a bad look, though it would probably be more convincing for Berthoud if his hair was a touch shorter. Both look like they should be wearing baggy coats and carrying some fat boards, getting ready to hike for turns. Not really a traditional racer's look, which is a nice change.

Ski bums in race suits, who'da thunk it?
