Atomic SX614 varizone positions adjustment

Thread Starter
Hey there,

I'm rather new on this site, so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong sections.  Anyways, I just recently acquired a pair of Atomic SX:11s with the SX614 bindings and noticed that had the varizone positions.  Before I tried anything myself, I figured I should ask someone exactly how you change between the positions.  Also if anyone could possibly comment on the different settings, peferences, etc.

Thanks

To change:

Push the little doo-dad on the front of the toepiece to the side (skier's right, if I remember correctly).

Slide the whole toe-heel assembly forward or back. This may require a little banging with the heel of the hand. If it takes more than that (like a hammer), something's binding that shouldn't be.

It should lock into place (and the doo-dad should snap back to the center) when the reference mark on the toepiece is aligned with whichever of the five marks on the baseplate you choose.

As for how the different setting work, the best advice is to try them out. It's rather interesting. I could tell the difference pretty readily, though my test procedures were way short of a valid double-blind protocol, so there's no accounting for whatever expectation or placebo effect might exist.

Binding forward ("Extreme") and the ski engages and comes in more quickly, though it can wash out the tails. You can adjust for this by standing more on the middle of the foot and less on the front at turn initiation. Binding back ("Speed") is the opposite: the ski will generally be more "relaxed" unless you otherwise jump onto the tip. I think I wound up on the second notch back, generally.

You must first pressure up on the doo-dad on the toe-piece before it will move to the side.
