My current skis are 184 cm Volkl Vertigo Motions. I think they were a little long for me, but not bad on groomers. However I'm headed out West again to Telluride and Wolf Creek in the spring.
Last year I tried some 2004-era 168 cm Dynastar Little Big Fats (116/88/103) at Wolf Creek. This year I'm looking at the Dynastar Legend Mythic Riders or the Line Prophet 90/100s. Comparable all-mountain width and stiffer flex on both which I think works for my weight/height (235/6'1") frame so I need to pick a length.
General guidelines for me go like this:
- 235 lbs: 182 cm
- Intermediate: -5 cm
- On piste/off piste: 50/50
- Equals: 177 cm to 182 cm
. . . according to the Sierra Trading Post guide.
But I really enjoyed the Dynastar Twin-tip 168 cm mid-fat last year . How much of a change/challenge is it to add the 4" from a 168 to a 178 on those skis?
I'm looking at 172s and 178s. Which would be recommended? I'm an intermediate skier, comfy on blues, tentative but doable on"easy" blacks out West.
