I have narrowed my selection down to two skis. Due to timing and finances want to pull the trigger prior to demo. Can anyone give some advice? Scott P4 181 vs. Blizzard Answer 178, both 2009. Will end up being roughly the same cost. thanks for your help.
-grew up skiing in CA (before I could walk). dad was a former olympic skier. did some minimal race development but mostly just skiing for fun.
-over the last 6-8 years have been in medical school and residency so really have had few opportunities to ski more than 1-7 days/season. similarly, I have grown weaker and am in worse shape than when i started my medical training.
-live in CA ski though this year going on trip to CO.
-5'9 160lbs 30
-favorite skiing: all blacks and up, steeps, trees, glades, powder when I can grab it. no bumps, park or big drops. favor a ski that focuses more on backside or off piste.
-my last skis I purchased where k2 modx 176cm. A good old ski that felt the right length. I have tried some demos since then but can't really remember details.
looking to buy one ski to cover me both in CA and CO as money is an issue. Looking I would say the area that I need the most help/work in is thick, heavy, crusty snow (sierra cement and bad wind crust). This is stuff I used to be able to just muscle through but now want some technological assistance. Want a ski that lends itself towards being "easy" and fun even if it means that I can't charge quite as hard. thoughts? advice? suggestions?
