Vail Dec. 21st thru 29th

Hi Bears. I'm heading out to Vail for 9 days with Bazzer Jr. (aka The Kid.) Mrs. Bazzer will also show up 1/2 way through our stay, but she prefers snowshoes and xc skis so we'll see her after the lifts close.

The Kid and I will be skiing from Dec. 21st through the 29th. He's 16, and would be delighted to meet some skiers/boarders near his age. We've got some friends in the area, but are always open to making more.

We've spent a fair amount of time skiing at Vail, and would be happy to show any visiting/wandering Bears around a bit. Of course, we'd be equally glad to learn some more about the place from any locals.

We'll have wheels for a few days and may well pay a visit to Beaver Creek.

We may have reliable Internet access at our digs, but if anyone knows that they’ll be around and would care to hook up, let me know prior to our departure on the 20th and I'll send along my cell phone number via PM. Otherwise, I’ll just check the forum and make connections on the fly.

We almost always hit the lifts as soon as they open, and ski until closing time. Should be easy to arrange meeting time & place. (Powder days the rules change a bit. Waiting time for stragglers is then cut to 30 seconds.)

Only caveat; we’re flatlanders and this will be our first trip of the season. It takes me a while to acclimate to the altitude, so anyone who wants to spend the day charging hard may want to wait until the 22nd to hook up.

bumpfreaq and I may be skiing Vail on the 29th.  I'll post something or PM you if that turns out to be the case.

DonDenver & Betsy, way cool. I've already got your contact info, and I believe you've still got mine. I'm thrilled to have the chance to see you both again.

Uncle Louie- already sent you a PM, but have got you penciled in for the 29th. (Confirm things and I'll write it in blood.) Have enjoyed your postings on Epic mightily, and am anxious to meet you. Produce bumpfreaq, and 1st round apres is on me.

I sent a customer an updated price list for next year last week and labeled it 2011!  I'm going to miss you guys by a couple days. I'm there (Vail) 1/22 heading home 1/28 . Lets make sure I have the year right -- 2010 that's it.

1/29 is my birthday. Hanging tough or not so tough that day with 55 years in.

No big deal misplacing a month UL…or a year in RT’s case.  It’s when you lose your sense of mountain trail direction or forget those secret stashes…now that’s a cause for alarm

C Bazzer in Dec and you guys in Jan

Hi Bazzer,

Shall we try meeting up again this year?

I'll be out there a little before you but not skiing everyday. Right now it looks like we will overlap on the 22nd and 23rd. Not sure if we'll be at Vail or BC but if you want to PM me we can exchange contact info.

Hi merrydog.
Been a while. Just Hope that you are well and we can make the hook-up work this season. Read your screen name and had a vision of Snoopy doing his "happy dance" in the snow. Delightful. PM being sent pronto.

Hey Boot. Gonna be working on the other side of the planet during the gathering. I'll be heading back to Colorado again for 2 weeks in February and post up here before then.

VSP, if the kid and I arrive without airline delays, we should hit town in time for an aprés beer with you on Sunday. I'll give you a call when we're squared away. If we're delayed, we should be at the Lionshead base Monday before the lifts open and perhaps make our first turns of the year with you during your warm up lap. Hey, if you turn that blue jacket inside-out can you leave the helmet in your locker?

Don't I wish... but if I'm in my civies, it's up to me about the helmet... Have to see how busy it is... But either way, I hope the vis is better than last year, so you guys can keep up!   lol

I expect this will end up being the picture of the year here on Epic.....

Ahh yes…the old days sans helmet.  Here with Betsy at Vail last season; perhaps one of the last shots we see of VSP without headgear:

I'm in!  I'll be skiing bunches from Dec 24th-Jan 3rd and would love to meet up with some of my favorite Bears.  Where's Tsavo?  Oh, right, off skiing big snow in BC.  Hopefully she'll join us too.

Keep up with you? I've got a somewhat dubious plan. First, I'd have The Kid drop a few Valium into your morning beverage. Then we use a pint of quick-cure epoxy in an attempt to adhere your bottom parts to the seat of a chairlift, and, just for insurance, rivet a pair of crampons to your ski bases.

Give me a break! As slow as you ski, even if you did all that, I'd still be at the bottom with enough time to order you a cup of coffee to be delivered from Starbuck's before you'd get to the bottom.  ;) ;) ;)

 Pre-departure bump.

Recent internet visits to Vail and BC sites show that there is still a lot of terrain that remains closed. Same appears true at Breck and A Basin. We’ll make the best of whatever is available.

I’ll understand if some of our Summit County buddies decide to avoid I 70 and ski closer to home. If I don’t get to see you this time around, I’ll post up again before we return in February.

The Kid and I have been on quite a spectacular run for the past few years and have been fortunate to have major snowfall arrive just in time for our visits. Hoping to keep our streak alive and have been doing late-night snow dances.

Barry- still in HOU, but should be on my way in a day or so... Should be there Monday night, maybe... on snow Tue or more likely, Wed...  Ric

Hey VSP. See you at your leisure. The Kid and I may slip off to Steamboat for a day to ski with one of his best buddies, but other than that we'll be around and anxious to see you. Safe journey from Texas. B

Hi Canyonlands. Would be my pleasure to share some turns. Skinny guy, 6', Grey helmet, black pants, red jacket and boots, Mythic Riders, (unless we get a good dump, then on new to me '09 Goats.) If you see a guy like that, who's also incredibly handsome, then keep looking. It's not me.

PM sent with contact info.

 Hi friends.
Made our first turns of the season. Blue sky day, and kind of crunchy underfoot. Had a grand time, but really could use a few more feet of snow. Probably not worth the drive from the front range right now, but forecast does call for some more fluffy stuff soon.
DARN!!! and I drove from so much further than the front range to get here... Maybe I should just turn around.....   lol

Got into Avon at about 6:15 this evening... paperwork tomorrow, stash my stuff in my locker, and hopefully be out on the hill by noon... I'll give you a call, Barry
