recommend family-oriented Blueray ski porn

Well not really porn, family movie.

We're getting a BlueRay player for Xmas. Figure it would be cool to get one BR ski movie.

Something reasonably family oriented is good.

I hate hype.

I hate obnoxious punk attitude.

Laid-back hippies are good.

Lots of cool visuals is good.

Cool soundtrack with a variety of tunes, not all harsh music, is good.

Tricks are okay within reason.  Not a big fan of ski movies where they try to drop as big as possible and just roll in the powder on the landing.  If you don't ski away from it, it's not a ski trick.

Not that into park stuff but a little is okay.

Mainly into skiing but if there's a few of those short fat sideways one-ski thingies, I could tolerate it.

Any recommendations?

I would look into one called "Swift, Silent, Deep - The story of the Jackson Hole air-force"

I really enjoyed it and it has some pretty good skiing in it along with a epic story about the start of free skiing, and the troubles they faced with patrols and what not,  pretty much if these guys didn't do what they did skiing would not be the same as it is today.   Check it out!

the ones from matchstick productions, and teton gravity research are also quite entertaining.

How old and ski experienced are the kids?

I had to stop watching ski movies (mostly Warren Miller productions) when the kids are up.  They are ages 6 and 7 with only a couple of ski days to their credit.  Turns out that the videos of extreme skiing wicked steeps and big air scared the heck out of them so much so that they didn't want to ski after watching them.  I had to find some youtube videos of toddlers skiing to bring them back to the realm that they will actually see when we go to the mountains.

No Brainer - but I haven't seen the Blu Ray version:  Steep

Bunch of people no longer with us:  Sylvain Sudan (sp?), Trevor Petersen, Doug Coombs, Shane McConkey

Here's a trailer:

Then for some fun historical stuff, though not Blu Ray:

For teenagers,  I would recommend Better Off Dead.  Downhill Racer just came out on DVD, Blue Ray should also be available soon right?

What's kinda annoying is I can't find an easy way to search for ski movies and blueray.  Is '"Swift, Silent, Deep" even in blueray?

MSP's In Deep and Claim are in Blu-Ray. I got mine a couple of weeks ago - breathtaking.

You can go onto MSPfilms.com to see the trailer to determine if that's what you want. Nice tribute to Shane in In Deep.

Agree with Tog, Steep is a great movie and appropriate for the entire family.  Swift, Silent, Deep is also very good.  There is some adult language in that one, so I think it depends on how old your kids are.

I thought In Deep was glorious. the first featured skier is 16 years old. there is alot of jumping off stuff, but the skiing is IMO inspired, (even if it wouldn't pass muster the MA forum.) It is obvious they are having fun and being creative. And it has old folks tunes, like Teenage Breakdown and a cute bit at the end with the Piano Man.

I have Steep in Bluray and it is gorgeous.
