the deal is once there is 4-6inches of snow I am going to ski the thugs, staying off the bottom makes the days MUCH more fun.
would you rather ski like a dolphin or a flounder?
Jimski interesting comment.
Powder skiing nirvana for me has a feeling more like levitation. Relatively long periods of a weightless feeling during each of the turns or in some cases just flowing into the next turn without really feeling any forces. In the later case, the turns are usually very large and the skis are not coming very far out of the fall line.
You can get the sensation both is very light deep snow and in this perfectly dense snow we get in Tahoe occasionally. In the deep light snow, you feel like you are hovering in the space between the surface of the snow (usually around your knees) and a hard layer that in somewhere below you. In that just right denser Tahoe snow and bigger skis, you stay close to or at the surface. But the snow is smooth creamy and very fast. The sensation is that of skimming across the surface. I definitely get more of the flow sensation in the later case.
Take a trip west or go heli-skiing. You’ll find out why people make such a big deal about powder skiing.
Both pictures I'm on the same skis (190 Katanas)
Light deep snow (24"+) :
Denser and wind effected snow 24 hrs earlier than the pic above.
