Lead Web Developer/Engineer (PHP)

Liftopia is seeking a talented PHP/LAMP software engineer with startup experience to join our team and lead the day-to-day development and extension of our web application. Founded in 2005, Liftopia is a profitable, venture backed startup that is changing the way the ski industry markets and distributes its core product: lift tickets. Liftopia is the largest seller of lift tickets online and was recently named a top 25 Budget Travel Website by USA Today. Our company is a very small (3.5 people), highly talented group with backgrounds at Hotwire, Accenture, Adroll, and ClickShift. We’re backed by some of the savviest investors in the space, including Amicus Capital, Erik Blachford (former CEO of Expedia Worldwide), Sand Hill Angels, and North Bay Angels. Our offices are located in downtown San Francisco at 2nd and Mission although high quality candidates with experience working remotely will be considered. We offer a competitive salary, PTO, paid holidays, and stock options. This role will start with a 1.5 month trial contract and will convert into salaried full time position if all goes well.

Responsibilities
* Develop, test and implement clear, maintainable, portable code.
* Own day-to-day development activities: architecture, documentation, and execution of development path; collaboration and management of available development resources; management of development infrastructure.
* Provide technical expertise and guidance to team to produce positive project outcomes.
* Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of our application.
* Identify problems early, proactively perform error and stress scenarios. Rapidly troubleshoot when things go wrong.
* Work with team to gather needs and requirements in order to develop scalable technical solutions.
* Be a valuable addition to a collaborative, small, fast-paced agile product team with fast iterations and release cycles.

Requirements:
* Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
* At least 5 years web/software development experience.
* At least 1 recent year of PHP web development.
* Extensive experience working with Linux, Apache and MySQL.
* Experience with e-commerce and transaction processing.
* Experience using CVS, SVN or other version control system.
* Passion for software development and object-oriented design.
* Excellent communication skills; results oriented; highly flexible; team player; self motivated; detail oriented.
* Ability to write coherent, organized code and be comfortable working on a complicated code-base with high levels of abstraction.
* Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize workload in a highly dynamic environment.
* Familiarity with the full product development lifecycle from requirement gathering to source control and release management.
* Aware of best practices for web development and able to communicate and share this knowledge.
* Self-motivated; able to quickly pick up new technologies and suggest improvements for existing technologies.

* Ability to hand-code standards compliant and semantic mark-up.
* Solid cross-browser CSS knowledge, and awareness of cross-browser issues.
* Advanced JavaScript/JQuery skills.
* Experience working with Smarty templating.
* Experience with Authorize.net API.
* Experience with siteREACT CMS.
* Experience with running comprehensive automated server and browser based QA testing.
* San Francisco Bay Area / Pacific timezone.
* Passionate about the outdoors, skiing and/or snowboarding.
