Why do people think East Coast Skiing sucks??? - Page 54

Just think if all the easterners who "live to work" instead of "live to ski" moved out west. I would love to send all those crowds western resorts then judge the quality of the skiing.

Eastern skiing can be great at times and it can be less than great but it is always better than not skiing. West too. Last season I'd certainly pick skiing in Vermont over skiing in Tahoe at just about any point in the season.

Once again I urge all eastern skiers who live to ski to move at west as soon as possible. Take your friends and extended families too.

OK, East Coast skiing is perfectly fine. Please don't come here to the PNW, where it has been snowing a lot. Too much, really.

I mean, I was forced to ski soft snow all weekend, with 5-7" falling overnight and another 5" falling throughout the day, each day. I never once had the opportunity to practice carving on ice. frown.gif And I had to endure lift lines of up to a couple minutes!! How am I expected to put up with this?! It's an outrage!

And....and....they say the whole ski season could be like this (gasp). The rocks and brush and creekholes are pretty much covered up and the whole mountain will be open by next weekend. It's....it's....hard to contemplate. I just hope I make it through the season.

Feel for you, brother.

You can still carve soft snow...........it's just not as much fun as Ice. Did I really say that.

Sounds a lot like VT's winter last year.

But, much different this year. UT sounds nice right now.

We are 25" over our average YTD snowfall at Christmas of 155"- with 4 days to go.

So yes, we are 16% ahead of normal (plus whatever falls in the next few days, which could be significant).

It has been skiing exceptionally well. Unless previous years, we have been getting it in slightly smaller and more regular doses, which is helping a ton with filling the mountain in- but the snowfall amount is closer to average than amazing.

I note that in a typical year, we get more snowfall by Christmas than a sizable number of East Coast areas get all year. Do with that information what you will.

Looks fun. Lake effect is legit.

I'm good. So is everyone else west of I-25.

Tug Hill is sledneck territory for a reason :D

Got that right, flat as a damn board.

That's the only reason I didn't bother heading out that way.

I'm going to promptly try to forget it, because it's depressing me right now. :hissyfit:

"Skiing is a good time business, TJ."  It does not suck. However, my good friends on the East Coast who are avid skiers always insist on meeting me to ski in places located in, or to the west of, the Rockies. Those friends of mine who know the East vote with their travel dollars...

What is this "East Coast Skiing" of which you speak?

Hard to say these days.

Doesn't matter if Wolf Creek gets pounded because it's flat. Soon, they'll get off and ski into a tunnel all the way to the base lodge cause the snow filled the valleys. How fun is that? Not.

See we've got dirt now around the lodge and on the trails. Easier to see.

Ok, considering it is almost a sure bet we will break 200" before Christmas, I will concede that this has been a better than average early season.

This is before the next major storm coming in over Christmas, and more heading into New Years.

Going through my emails this morning:

From Okemo: 25 trails spread across 151 ares of skiing.

From Ski Utah: 5 feet of snow since Sunday!

The one and only reason eastern skiing sucks - lack of snow.

Mad River Glen ski report, December 19th:

Sad. I feel for my skiing brothers and sisters in the east. This year is worse for you than last year was for us. And that's saying something.
