You're thinking only in terms of "smooth, groomed" runs, probably because you're not that accustomed to skiing powder in Europe. I was talking about powder (in winter, when the vast, vast majority of skiers actually .. ski), where the US excels way past Europe. If you want to go skiing in summer in NA, you can go tour; you don't have to spend your time on the Internet.
What's vague about, "number of inches of snow per year"? About as clear as it can get. Europe doesn't compare. Neither does much of Colorado, for that matter. Utah, PNW, Sierras ..
Also, if you're talking solely groomed runs, then Europe's greater crowds come into play.
