BPA, most folks your age agree that there probably isn't a God. Hopefully you will begin to see first hand evidence that there must be a God such as there are far too many uncanny coincidences for there not to be. That is what happens to most of us older, and highly educated, folks that reconnect with God later in life.
There never will be empirical evidence to prove God exists because that isn't what God wants. It wouldn't be "faith" if there was proof.
I really want to derail this thread and any thread that chaos makes so here it goes again.
Faith and finding "faith" is such well trodden overused idea that almost never gets looked at closer do its overuse. Very much the same as noone actually knows the true definition of scientific theory
. Since I defined what scientific Theory is, and noone listened anyways. I might as well define faith as well."Faith is often used in a religious context, as in theology, where it almost universally refers to a trusting belief in a transcendent reality, or else in a Supreme Being and/or this being's role in the order of transcendent, spiritual things."
the enemies of that definition of faith are awareness of our world, investigation into it, thinking about whats you ve found, and using your innate intuition to find out the laws that govern the natural world around us. Most people dont have the mental capacity to do the above or would rather no put the time into. Just because your unwilling or unable to understand, or dont like the mushy feeling you get when you think about the afterlife doesnt mean people should sit there and discount scientists. The more people of faith understand what is actually going on the more they would discredit their own faith.
To blinding accept something does a disservice to our mental capacity. Especially when there is overwhelming evidence against the concept of a supreme being and no empirical evidence that there ever has been a supreme being. faith is an instruction manual on how to give yourself confirmation bias. Does it make people feel good? sure. Does it keep people from doing stuff for fear of GOD striking them down? probably. Faith is clearly not a bad thing for people who need it, but its is still doesnt mean its anything more than blindly accepting convenient lies to make you feel better. There is no Divine intervening hand of god, there is only people willing to believe first without evidence.
ok since I have received a couple PMs about these post let me state these facts.
I am not a total atheist more like agnostic who is truly looking for people to prove to me GOD exist with out just saying you just have to have faith. Also what created the start of it all IE the mass before the Big Bang, which is now everything there is anywhere in the universe today.
I believe we have a spirit, not the christian sense of the word, but we have the ability for complex emotions far beyond our animal brothen on this planet. We smile, we feel good, we get sad, we feel pain, we laugh, we love, we feel good, we get excited, we sit here and contemplate our own existentence. Most of those are uniquely human traits well as far we know.
Lastly I believe the bible is a great piece of non fiction which the ancients described the best they could what they saw in their world.
