Shogun or Gotama?

I am looking for a new pair of powder boards. I currently have a pair of 184 Mantra's, they are great, but I want something with a little softer flex and wider under foot. My first two choices are the Salomon Shogun and the new Volkl Gotama. I ski on the east coast and take a trip out west every couple of years. They would be mainly used in the trees, where the powder collects. I have demoed the shogun, which was by fluke, because the rep didn't have the ski that I was looking for so I thought I would try them for fun. I absolutely loved them and which got me thinking that I should get a pair. I tried the 182 and they skied shorter than the listed length, mainly due to the rocker in the tip. I can get the shogun's for pro form cost, not sure about the goats.

My first question is: Has anyone tested both skis and how do they compare to each other? Which one is better on groomed/hardpack trails?

Second question: What size should I buy? I am 6'2" 190 lbs. Level 9 skier.

Third question: What bindings should I mount to the gotama's (If I choose them)?

Final question: Are ther other skis that are similar that I should look into?

Any help answering my questions is greatly appreciated. I always come here first for advise for new skis.

Yes, I have skied both and like the Shogun as an all arounder. The '10 Gotama is quite good in soft and/or deep snow but not as good as the Shogun elsewhere.

Neither is great but the Shogun is better.

Level 9 and you have to ask? well  IMO,.........high 80's to low 90's

Whatever binding you feel comfortable with on the Shogun would also be fine on the Gotama.

So....you demoed a really good ski, you loved it, and you can get it on pro form.......sure you could look into lots of other skis, but why would you???

The reason I asked was that I just wanted another opinion. I usually ski mid 180's in most skis. I just thought that since it is my first time looking at rockered skis that I wasn't 100% sure what size to get. I was trying to decide between the 182 and the 191 in the shogun and was looking at the 186 goat.

Thanks for your opinion.

Agree with SJ and Yo Momma, if you demoed a ski and you like it and pro form, go with the Shogun also because everyone on this site might like the Gotama better but you might hate it and love the Shogun.

So, final result, Shogun
