Wax. Just put a layer of wax on the bases and edges before you put them away, then scrape it off and rewax before you go again.

Zardoz Nowax will also work if your not into waxing

The old traditional method is to put vasoline on them.

Wax, your bases will thank you.

What's the definition of "in-between trips"? If it's within a week, I'd say just to wipe the base and the edges down really well and let it air dry. Do hot wax (and a light tune) every few ski days or when the base starts to dry out.

1. Always dry the skis with a towel or such, and then let them stand apart fom each other to dry thoroughly before strapping them together or storing in a ski bag.

2. Try to avoid placing wet skis base to base and/or in a ski bag before you have thoroughly dried them (see 1, above).  If you must transport them wet in a bag or base to base to get them home from skiing, immediately remove them from the bag and begin Step 1., and turn the bag inside out or open it up to let it dry thoroughly before using it again.  Superficial rusting will start very quickly if you transport wet skis together.

Vaseline, chapstick and zardoz are wrong answers. All 3 contaminate your base wax.

1. Dry off your skis.
2. Do not leave them in the ski box.
3. DRY off your skis.
4. Do not leave them wet in an unheated garage.
5. DRY OFF your skis.
6. If you are not going to hot wax them, rub the edges with a soft wax. It takes 30seconds.

PS - I use zardoz for the one condition that it actually works in; dirty saturated wet late spring and summer snow. Afterward, I clean and hotwax immediately.

And I'm not even a waxing junkie.
