Have not skied Crested Butte can anytell me how it compares to Summit County resorts for all round skiing and what we might expect as far as early snowfall?  (Dec. 11-16.)

CB is a great mountain with some of the best expert terrain in the country.  But that early,  there won't be much expert terrain open.
But there won't be any lift lines, well unless they do free ski again?

If you just book flights into Denver and a rental car, you can wait until the last minute to decide your final destination.

Keep an eye on:

Steamboat - Kind of mellow terrain, but it covers up well with big early season storms.
Aspen/Highlands - Highlands opens on the 12th and the ski co always opens a bunch of terrain that weekend, conditions permitting.
Vail - Seed's the clouds and I think it works.  But can get hordes of Denverites.

Summit Co. - Snowmaking capital of the US, if theres nothing else to ski.

Agreed, CB has plenty of expert terrain and tons of intermediate, but early season you will likely be skiing blue groomers.
