Ski hire in Zermatt?

Thread Starter
Going to be there in March, don't want to bring my skis.  Recommendations for shops with good reputations and a decent selection of well-maintained expert skis, waists 78-94?

Thanks!
Mike

Shops in Zermatt all pretty well stocked, from what I saw. Bring your Gold card.

There are also a couple of companies in Europe that let you pre-order rentals (here's one: http://www.intersportrent.com/), so you can choose your gear online. I've skied with lots of friends who've rented and no one's ever had any issues. Bigger shops will usually take skis back and do the edges as often as you want, for example.

We were there during September two years ago and I rented skis/boots at a shop right next to the base station of the two lifts (one is a gondola and the other is a cable car/aerial tram) that go up out of the south end of the town of Zermatt up to Furi.

The name of the shop was Dorsaz Sport and  it was very, very well stocked with high-end skis and boots for rent.  Also, the shop guys were knowledgeable and helpful.  BEST OF ALL - when they set up my boots in the bindings, they just asked what DIN setting I wanted and set them to it.  No questions about age/weight/ability and chart consulting - they just set 'em to 10 and handed them to me.  I liked that.

Here's their location if you can figure it out from this map:

Good luck and have fun.  I'm enormously jealous.

Hi Mike,
Zermatt is one of the best places in Europe for the ski hire. You may find all the newest models of all brands in the ski shops there.. I hire from Julen ski shop(intersport) which is next to the ice rink..
Enjoy..

I'd agree with sevecit ; Julen Sport is really good, if a little expensive, but they have knowledgeable staff, and good skis. They will service them, or change them as much as you want. I had boots fitted there, and they did a good job, and the store is pretty much in the centre of town.

When I went to Zermatt - I rented from a ski shop right opposite the sunnegga lifts. I think they have a couple of stores. what i liked most is - they would store it overnight for free and if you know you are going to be skiing klein matterhorn the next day - you can tell them the previous night and they will transport it to the store close to the KM lifts and you can pick it up the next  morning.

don't remember the name of the store - but google should help you locate it.

Hope you had luck. For the next time I can recommend this ski hire, in th emiddle of the town.

Hope you had luck. For the next time I can recommend this ski hire, in the middle of the town.
