In the "perfect turn" thread Bob B differentiated turning for direction change from turning for speed control or braking. Being an eternal intermediate I'd be interested in the collective views of the Barking Bears instructing community on speed control and braking techniques.

Hi Tony,

This relates to my latest thread about the short turn.

I think speed control is a must, for skiing. What I like to do is ski groomed, blue/black runs, while making short turns. What I'm focusing on are my technique, and, speed control.

How to keep the speed controlled, to not gain speed? Not by braking, but by making carved/skarved, short turns. If my technique is right, I don't pick up any speed. If it's off, I'm gaining speed.
