Living in Paris since August, already planning my weekends in Dec, Jan and March (Feb coming back to my country).

Where to go, how, where to stay ?

Thanks a lot in advance !!

Train from Paris to Bourg St Maurice, then you have a wide choice
Les Arcs
La Rossier
Val D'isere
You can stay in Bourg and take the funicular up to Les Arcs 1600, hotels at the bottom of the mountain are cheaper
There  are hotels in each resort but they will probably be looking for a minimum of three nights, have a look at the tourist office site for each resort.

Good call, radar. You can also get off that train at Moutiers and go up to Val Thorens/Meribel.

You could also go by train to Geneva, then head up to Chamonix.

I went to University in Paris and as a ski racer I would take the train back to the Alps every single winter weekend. It's tiring for sure, but definitely doable.

In addition to the options you've already been given, you can take the Paris - Annecy train then rent a car or hop on a bus to La Clusaz, a pretty cool resort (head straight to the Balme area of the resort, super fun terrain). Or go Paris - Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains (Le Fayet) and then bus to any resort in the Mont-Blanc region: Chamonix, Saint-Gervais, Les Contamines, etc.

In any case if you can rent a car at the train station you'll save tons of time... Probably worth it if you only have a couple of days.

Many thanks for the info.
Renting a car would add to my cost probably to remain parked until my come back to the station and being absolutely new there... isnt it likely I will get lost and lose more time ?

I will research the mountains you mentioned, thanks again.

true... Have you looked into joining some sort of ski-club in Paris? There are often good deals to be had by going as a group - a good ski club will have negotiated all inclusive weekend deals, transportation, accommodation and lift tickets (not to mention not doing it solo will make the experience all the more fun). Good luck with your planning

Thanks. Actually I finished University 20 years ago... my wife coming back to my country for two months and I will be working here and starving for some ski... because my first son is about to come and I will have to bury my gear for some years.

Question: if I stay in Bourg is it OK ? how much time from there every morning to the resorts ?
When do ski resorts open ? Would December weekends have enough white stuff ? Not much train seats available, I should be buying...
any hotel in Bourg to recommend ?

I did this from Paris last year, worked very well, direct train (TGV) and the funicular is free with your lift pass. Takes 7 mins but there is only 1 every 1/2 hr.
