Jackson Hole 1/17-24/10 - Page 6

The skiing wasn't so hot today, but it's snowing (lightly) tonight so maybe things will improve a little.

As of this morning, I ended my attempts to help "ski the Lower Faces into shape".  There are a few lines down the Faces that have become relatively skier-packed, but they're so brushy at the lower third that it's really become kind of stupid.  I'd feel like a complete moron if I got hung up in some of that crap and hurt myself, so I'm swearing off that part of the mountain until some significant new snow falls.

Yesterday was the first day in about 25 that I didn't ski something close to bell to bell.  I got cut in the morning and Tele skied for a few hours, then got cut in the afternoon and went home for a much needed nap.  The snow was a bit less good than it had been due to the warm inversion up high the last several days melting some of the South and East faces during the middle of the day.  It was overcast yesterday and that stuff didn't soften up.  The North faces were good as always.  The light was a bit flat and I was ready to rest after many consecutive day of great skiing.  I still haven't skied a lower face/Hoback and don't want to, but will follow someone else if that's what they want.  I also haven't skied a Mushroom/Hoops or Pepis'.  Probably today or tomorrow.  I just got some Intuition Liners cooked into my Tele boots and am working out the small kinks.  The Intuitions are RAD.  I now have them in almost all of my ski boots.  Looking forward to meeting and skiing with some new/old Bears soon.

Tov won't be making it this year so we don't have her to tape up.

I am hoping, just like my last trips west, that when the locals say "gee this sucks" I still think "gee this is the best I've ever had!"

Remember what us east-coasties normally have to deal with!

4-days and counting...

Sweet!  Just what I always wanted!  A partial shoulder dislocation right before the trip!

I cant tell you how happy this makes me...

Happened last night.  I just got around to bitching about it now.

How'd you manage to expire the timer on your shoulder before the one on your knee?  Need beer tonight?

Beats me...  My knee is still messed up but I ski bumps on it anyway and just complain later with ice packs...

My shoulder is wrecked (subluxated, I think, based on what it felt like) but who needs a shoulder to ski?

Of course I need beer tonight.  I always need beer

That and you are bringing your own shoulder put-er back in-er with you  :) Can't tell you how useful i feel - i can put shoulders back in whoohoo!  We should be able to supply you with enough advil, ice and amazing views to get through it.

3 days and counting ....

Lovebug,
Where were you last year when I needed you!

Absolutely no shoulder dislocations allowed this year.

Noofus, my dislocated shoulder brother, we will survive and thrive!

I can raise my arm about 3/4th of the way today...which is an improvement.  Is it bad that I hear/feel grinding stuff in my shoulder socket?

Snow is forcasted for next week.

Also, the local Shell stations are running an ad where if you buy $10 in gas, you can get a free lift ticket to Targhee (and other) resorts.  Only on certain days of course.

Let me know if you guys come over next Friday or Saturday.

I just spoke with Finndog who is in Snowmass. This is insane, but he's loving his Kastle 78's so much, he's offering to teach any and all how to downsize your waist. Talk about bring a knife to a gunfight.

This will make twice in 10 days that I've skied with Philpug and Finndog when I had the fatter skis. A world turned upside down.

We arrive tomorrow around noon. Can't wait for Monday! Anybody planning on the Moose tomorrow late afternoon?

Tomorrow is my birthday. Tomorrow we're having a slight casual social function @ our place. Diverse and eclectic crowd. It will be fun. Be there. 6PM.
Furthermore, if you search the now worthless Taco Bell Coulior thread (due to dry conditions) there is a pretty good map to my house. All Bears in town are welcome. Finn: PM me about the appt. tomorrow- even better give me a call.

Yes, Mike, the world is truly coming to an end. I had the pleasure of skiing with TOG and Trekchick among other bears today. We were skiing the bear claw section and the lower headwalls in 4-6" of frozen crud with a bunch of brush. The 78's rocked! Can't believe how great these ski's are

Now to the weather,  Not sure where the erroneous report of 8" came but it's lookig like 1-2 inches Monday night, I am hopeful that turns into several but the 8" forecast is not accurate. Sorry!

 SIJ, calling now,

Finndog, it was great catching up with you and your posse.  Makes me wish I were tagging along with you to JH, but alas, I must go back to work to earn more Ski Trip $$
Have fun all.  I'll do a little snow dance for you.

Bob Peters will punch some clouds and make it snow now.
Ya sorry. The 8" came from accuweather. They are no longer predicting a dump. :( sitting in ORD waiting for the flight to Jackson.
Looks like it's already snowing at the SLC resorts this morning. Hope you guys get some flakes before the day is over.  Question:  what day do you think you'll go to Grand Targhee?  I'm thinking of skiing either Thursday or Friday at JH, depending on your GT plans.

Came down the escalator at Denver Airport on Sunday and ran into Phil!

Great skiing with you Finndog!
You really should try the MX88's at Jackson.

Jsut catching up on this- Because as it ended up, I was on the same flight as Phil but they were not waiting at the gate. I am on the plane, putting on my Ipod and settling in, Phil comes walking down the isle.  Too funny.   Sorry I missed you TOG.  Really enjoyed skiing with you as well, We must do that again-

Never got to the 88's, 1 day on the 78's and the snow came in, skied the Nomads all week
