How come i can't make a thread in the classifieds?

Thanks,

Humm, I know you need to become a supporter to post in Gear Swap, but I thought classifieds was open to everyone with enough posts to avoid the spammers.

Probably because you just got here.  Newbies I think have a minimum post requirement because of problems with spammers.

Cuz Trekchick has enough stuff and Phil's garage is full . It's a conspiracy and I blame the mods. who else  ?

Scroll down on this page and read the guidelines

Actually, the * part of that is not clear.  What does the * part apply to?  And, reading it, it sounds like only supporters can post that they want to sell stuff unless a supporter posts they are looking to buy stuff, then a mere member can post that they've got that to sell.  And what is the bit about the "30 day rule"?  It sounds like it's referring to something mentioned earlier, but that's the first mention of it.

That does make it confusing  especially when it doesn't refer to any * in the script above. I'd bet it's a remnant from when they changed the guidelines and copied it over to this new platform.

It does say Supporters can only post sales without any 30 day rules evident.

I do think the Gear Swap rules are different than the other classified section rules.  However, I also recall seeing some active discussion about initiating more preventive measures that will reduce the amount of spam posts.

I recently started a thread in Gear Swap, but I'm not a supporter.  I wasn't trying to sell anything, actually I needed to BORROW something.  Is that why it wasn't "moderated and deleted?"  I was glad I was actually able to post it, but wasn't sure at the time if it would work or not... some of these rulez are still kinda confusing...

 Jaypowhound, you are correct.
PSA's, Want to Buy's, Dumpster stuff and kids swap stuff are exempt, but all other sales require that the OP be a Supporter.

This was put in place when we had a problem with a scammer who got away with some serious $$ from a few of our members.

Keep in mind, Phil's Garage(formerly gear swap) was created as a service to those who participate and have an interest in this site.  After some time of success, it was beginning to resemble Craigslist where there was no real way to tell who we were dealing with.
I, for one, much prefer that its kept as a tool for those of us who love this place.

Well, I think we need to have a sticky at the top of each of the sections that explains the rules for that section more clearly.  Newbies certainly won't know where to go to find the rules.

IMO, The place where it needs to be clear is in the Gear Swap area.  And it just so happens it is clearly there with the key line in bold face that says....

You must be an EpicSki Supporter to post a sale. Only supporters can post thread starters, any member can reply. Be aware that EpicSki merely provides the forum, the exchange is entirely up to the buying and selling parties. EpicSki plays no role in the transaction and bears no responsibility for any problems that may arise; however the relationship between supporters and the site is such that risks should be significantly reduced. If you want to sell your gear become a supporter

I don't get why this is a problem

Because of this mysterious add-on at the end:

*This is for NEW members/supporters who sign up. If someone has been active here for a while and choose to become a supporter, this 30 day rule is waived.

Also, why is this IN BETWEEN the sub-forums and the main area?  I didn't even find the main area until just now because I thought that the sub forums were it when I saw the "fine print".  Shouldn't this be at the top or something?

The 30 days is to try to keep someone from using EpicSki as a hit and run selling spot.

The reason its in between the two sections is because you do not need to be a supporter to post in the areas at the top, just the main gear swap area.  As a matter of perspective, the Gear Swap area is extremely busy so I'm not convinced that a majority of folks are missing it.
