Thanks for the heads up on the Extended Stay. Thats enough savings to buy 2 lift tickets. I like that. I can buy donuts for breakfast or even cook eggs. I had forgotten that ski3po had stayed there in '08.
Just got my flights through Orbitz a day or so ago. During that process, they offered me the Super Pass deal to get the extra day of free skiing. So if you're not buying your lodging together with the pass, this seems to be another way to do it.
Wife & I will be in Salt Lake 2/9-13 (Alta & maybe Solitude), Jackson Hole 2/14-18, then back in SLC 2/19-23 (uncertain, but at least a day or two at Deer Valley/Canyons and I'll need another Alta-fix fershure). Bought cheap flights back in May, so missing `The Gathering' again but would enjoy doing some runs with any Bears that happen to be around. (Oh, beer's good too!)
anyone want to subsidize a GREAT Snowbird tour guide!
As Lady Salina and I use to teach once upon a time also we more then understand the need of instructors to be as "thrifty " as possible, so much so I still run parts of my life that way. Im pretty sure we will be staying ( possitive) at the homewood suites in salt lake.( its a point thing so free for points is a great thing) these rooms come with a seperate room and a pull out ,you are more then welcome to the pull out. As Ive seen Lady Salina pull her hair out over some of the things you have said and I also can tell you pull your hair out over what she says to you ,I personally think you 2 are two pees in a pod and would get along fantasticly. (I checked she said ya would be great LOL ) now I havent firmed up my dates yet as Im trying to also do this on points for free flights( man am I cheep er thrifty ya)but it will be the 30th or the 31st to the 6th or 7th, soooo if your planning the 31 to the 6th you would be safe . LOL anyway let me know
I just put myself down on the roll call list as "most likely" for the Snowbasin day. It should be a day off for me, so I would be happy to share guide duties with Steelman if there is a need. Sounds like a fun group! Shovels, beacons & probes anyone?
I'm going to try to make this. Need to make sure my boss won't flip out if I take a week in January, etc.
You might flip out if you head to the Gathering in January....it's mostly in Feb !!!!!!
I think Garyskr is staying at Exended Stay (Union Park location) where I am staying. We will both have 4 Wheel Drives. I think I'm hauling MattL and Madmike around so I'm full. Not sure about Gary, but he did post something on it earlier in this thread.
I'm going to try to make this. Need to make sure my boss won't flip out if I take a week in January, etc. Anyway, couple questions:
Are most people planning to stay in Sandy? Looks like there are lots of cheap lodging options available there. Anybody looking for a roommate?
Is there a place most people will be staying at for carpooling purposes? I don't relish the idea of driving up and down the road to Snowbird / Alta (at least if it's snowing, which I hope it will be).
Last Gathering in Utah I rented a Ford Focus. I figured that would be good enough with my usual luck (or lack of) with fresh snow. It ended up sitting the entire week and I only used it to go to the airport and back. There is no way it would have made it anywhere. Luckily I had a ride all week in a Jeep Cherokee.
P.S. For all of you wondering what skis to bring... The answer is the fattest ones you have! Then, if you have more to choose from, bring an all-mountain pair. The only area in Utah where you would want to have anything dedicated for carving is Deer Valley. Ohh the corduroy there :)
Anyone looking to rent a group cabin the Mrs. and I would be interested in going in on one for Saturday eve through Thursday AM. PM me or reply here if any other couples/singles are interested as well.
