Utah is not much of a party state. Park City is the only "going out" place in the area, I think. But please correct me if I am wrong. Drive time from one place to another is not that big of a deal. I will also be game for some apres ski shenanigans!

Too funny... I was actually referring to the food part of the menu:) . I love home cooked/organic type places as long as they are not vegetarian establishments. As for the non-food part of the apres, I'm sure we'll figure something out! Drive time shouldn't be an issue as you stated, the only thing that came to mind is how many cars are motivated to drive downtown after fatigue sets in from the days work.
I am always food motivated after a day of skiing, so I will be up for anything if there is a meal involved... even if we 'have' to go to a Utah speakeasy along the way.

Hi All!
I hope this isn't too odd a place for my first post. . . gotta start somewhere, right? Since my wife decided to pass on a trip out west this year (I don't get that) I was looking for a group to ski with. The Bears look hard to beat in that regard. I'd found this site a year or so ago when looking for boot fitting info, but unfortunately I didn't venture outside that forum - looks like my loss though as I might have found more opportunity (i.e., excuses) to hit the slopes.
Regarding the Gathering, I see in earlier posts (over a month old now) that some people were still looking to fill slots in either lodging, and/or sharing a vehicle. I'm interested if people are still trying to fill up beds/SUV seats. If not, then I'll plan on either the ESA, La Quinta or Super 8. I'm flexible between Saturday and Sunday arrival with openings.
I can't believe I haven't skied Snowbird/Alta since around 1990 on my Salomon 9000 EXP skis! That might be the last time I skied in much of anything that could be called powder too! :-(. That's way too long, so glad to have a reason to get out there again.

Hey Greg,
You will have a great time at the Gathering. My first trip out west was at the PC Gatrhering a few years back and I went solo also. I was a bit intimidated with all of these great skiers and the fact tat I had ever skied off piste. This group did an amazing job of ensuring that nobody was over their head or got hurt. As a result I skied stuff that I would never have attempted on my own. I also had a great time hanging out afterwards with them.
I suggest you PM people who posted earlier about rooms and rides as they may not check this thread often. Looking forward to skiing with you. You should also post in the Roll Call thread a few threads below this one.
Gregg

),Glad to hear your initial "adventure" turned out so well. Sounds like a great group. I figure at the very least I'll be on better snow than I've seen in years and get to hear about some great runs while drinking a cold one. I'll try the PM route as you suggest too. Thanks.
Greg.

Tell you what though....why don't we just create the "all Carolina" group. I used to live at the beach and I was right in your neighborhood last week (tell you all about it at The Gathering).
It really doesn't take long to figure out who's who. We can start out with introductions before we hit the lift on day one. Another humorous thing is that most of the Bears I know actually have peoples EpicSki handles on speed dial...not their real names!

skis, equipment, etc.
I bring one pair. they are fatter and have flowers on them. I make sure they are freshly waxed. then we ski. it's super fun.
carpooling and 4wd
my skis are short and so am I. my butt is under 20 inches wide. I can fit in your car if I need a ride. I express my gratitude with baked goodies and liquor.
who skis what where?
I want to be with the people who are bouncing around in the deep snow and rummaging through the trees, please
(per madmike) how many days of powder can I handle?
you should be counting the number of no powder days in your life and planning trips based on how many days WITHOUT powder you can handle! besides ... skiing powder is less work.
I spent a week in UT in 2008 ... the same week in fact (post sundance) and it snowed about 5 feet in one week. I laughed like a derranged school girl for a whole week. please, please, please let it snow like that again!!
I arrive Jan 29th and depart the 5th. I plan to ski the entire time and can probably even have my arm twisted to ski the 30th, too. or go to Park City and spend an afternoon at the No Name! ha ha

Anyone still looking for a roommate? I'll be flying in Saturday night and coming back early saturday morning -- dunno where I'll ski on Friday after the gathering, but I'm sure someone's planning on getting an extra day somewhere.
Can't wait to get back to UT

Also - is there a grocery store near the ESA Midvale? Sounds like that's where lots of people are staying? I'm looking at that on Expedia now and the price is pretty good. I used to be very comfortable with any lodging - have even stayed in 1 star hotels in Europe - but had a bad experience at an ESA type hotel in Vermont this fall. It was brutally dirty and I ended up with bed bug bites.
But this ESA is decent?
And - does anyone have room in a vehicle/looking to split on a rental?
Hmmm...Very very tempting. I was planning a trip to Silver Star where I have a free place to stay but this sounds way more fun.

Just got the time off from work, and I am there from 1-30 (Evening) till Checkout 2-5 Friday morning.
I was going to spoil myself and stay in LCC but they are just tooo much $$$$ for 1 person.
I will stay in Midvale Super 8 or ESA.
I am driving to the Event. SO. I will be able to shuttle 2 additional people to all resorts and back to Midvale. Jeep Cherokee

I just found this thread and am seriously thinking about it - just need to evaluate my finances. Anyone know if these ski resorts give lift ticket discounts for instructors?

I've been reading your posts in the Fitness forums here. You're not going to make everyone do bends & thrusts and mountain climbers before skiing, are you?

I was thinking about it too -- I've stayed at the dorms at the Peruvian before, and they're a pretty good deal -- $120 including all 3 meals-- as long as you don't mind sharing a room with strangers, but if I want to go out at some point in time, I'm going to feel left out, so I'll probably do the same and stay in midvale.
