Head IM 82, vs 88 or maybe Mojo 94... - Page 2

Richie, I think you ski the shorter iM88 though, right?  It's a lot more tame and does ski like a wide race ski.  Unfortunately, it seems like the formula for the iM88 doesn't scale up gracefully to 186cm.  After a taste of the Kastle MX88 in 188cm, the 186cm iM88 feels like the leaf spring off a school bus to me, and I ended up selling my pair.

Yes, mine are the 175...after reading all the reviews and listening to the recommendations here I decided that the longer ones were going to be way too much ski; being that these I were told ski big.

Pick up a Mantra in 184 and be a happy one-ski-quiver camper.

I have the 88 @ 175 as well, and weighing in at 165lbs, I still find that size to be a very demanding ski that needs to be really moving to come alive. For crushing crud at high speed in big turns I think its an awesome ski, but not really what I want to be on most of the time.

im looking at a pair of im82 skis from 08 yr,they are the green graphic, are they the same as the 09 10 model?

Sounds like the "Monster" 82s.
Could be wrong, but i think the 9-10s are softer?
Terrific ski (183cm), versatile.
Many owners say do a "retune" on the
base and baseedges.  Initially, i did not.
Would recommend it.  It transforms it.

I read all this and I think, what's wrong with me?   I liked the 88s (see my thread elsewhere in this forum).  Maybe it's because I skied with this year's Peak 88s rather than Monster 88s -- someone mentioned the Peaks were less stiff, which for me may have been a good thing.  Or maybe it because I had them in 164 length -- someone mentioned the different characteristics as length increases.  Or, maybe I just think I like them but in actuality they're not right for me....

Don't worry about a thing, Jimski.

Most of the people who have dissed the PEAK 88 have never skied it.  They've heard it is softer (OMIGOD!) than the Monster 88 and have then proclaimed the Peak 88 to not be "expert" enough for a really "CORE" skier.  Of course, most of the armchair critics have probable never skied the Monster 88 either.

The Peak 88 is a wonderful all-around ski.  I've skied them quite a bit this year and I love them.

(but then... I'm a shill for Head and my opinion is suspect)

Bob -- thanks.  Because the Peak 88 was not on my demo list, I hadn't read any of the comments on it -- pro or con -- before skiing it.  So I may have had more of an open mind than if I'd been trying out one of the skis on my list.  To the extent that I had any preconceptions, it was only that an 88 waist (in any ski) might be too wide for me, but the Peak 88 disabused me of that.

The experience makes me wonder how much of a "Oujie Board" effect goes on in demo-ing.
