Contractor's day at Holimont

Greetings all. I'm starting this thread early this year for various reasons.

First, I'm thinking of separating the gathering from Contractor's Day because of the crowds. If we decide on another day to meet, no doubt we can find empty slopes and much more time for runs and sit down conversation. So, I'm open to hosting the event on a Friday to be determined by everyone, at a time we can get the most attendence. By doing this, we open up all the possibilities of finding more rooms available in town as well as less crowded apreski conditions. To let you know, I've skied most Fridays at Holimont where there have been fewer than 500 people there and the place is a wide open playground. If enough people agree, a second day, Saturday at Holiday Valley can be included.

Also keep in mind, with 20 people, come discounted lift tickets at both places. Let's pick a day and who's in?

As much as I would love to get back up there with you guys, Fridays are no good for me. (I am off Sat/Sun). Enjoy, I will be there is spirit.

Lars I'm so happy to hear this as Contractor's Day butts right up to the Gathering in SLC.  January 8th, 15th or 22nd look good to me.   I'd be up for the Saturday following any of those dates as well.

Woooohoooo!

Lars,
I am a ski patroller at Holiday Valley and I would be willing to give up 20 free passes for your group.  Only thing I am looking for in return would be information about staying up at Jackson Hole, like cheapest places to stay, fun things to do.
Thanks,
Pat

Count me in. I'll likely be tied up with coaching the first three weeks of January, so perhaps February is a better month to shoot for? If you don't see much of me between now and then - you have my number. Just let me know what fireplace to be at.

That's very generous. Spent 10 years there myself. Got a few favors but not 20. Thankyou. And if you need Jackson info, Bob Peters, a regular here lives there and is the resident guide. I'm sure he'll help you out. Send him a PM.

I've got your number and will keep in touch pal. February just might be a better time. I'm open for that. Good to see you posting again.

I'd sure be interested-I had a great time two years ago. Obviously, it depends on the date, but I'll keep track of the thread. We should work on getting TC and the Michigan gang down too.

Bumpfreaq was working on Mr TC and Tom.  I think they could be persuaded but we'll be in Colorado the days prior to  ESA Aspen Snowmass and coming back home just after, Jan 8th ish through 15th.

BF you think you can convince Mr TC to turn around and take a road trip a week after a Colorado trip?
I would love to swing up there and ski with you guys.  Jan 17 - 24th works for me and anytime after Feb 10th.

I don't know.  He's a very level headed and conservative individual.  That could be a tough task =)

We can be very flexible with the date so it doesn't conflict with anyone's plans. To a certain degree though, we're not going to pick a time everyone can make it. At some point in the future we will have to pick a date and stick with it. However, that is the purpose of this thread. To pick a date that will be open for as many people as possible. January, February and March are wide open and good skiing weather here. We had over 20 feet of snow lasat year. I expect much of the same this year.

Last year having the best snow conditions on the day we chose. Knee deep stuff everywhere in the trees and shin deep on the edges of the trails with clean packed soft powder everywhere else. It was just very crowded. Thus, the change from Contractor's Day will open up the lodge as well as being alone on the slopes. And believe me. I skied days there in knee deep stuff making 8 or 9 runs before I crossed another set of tracks.

We have plenty of time and flexibility at this point to make almost everyone have the opportunity to attend. I am a good host.

I need to be sure I make this event this year. I have never skied at Holimont !  Lars, my lousy palnning had me in Bradford this past Friday. I was hoping to get up earlier and try and play some golf . Stopped to make a phone call at the Kane Country Club on the way home. Some very hardy golfers in NW Pa. Temp was about 40 F 10-15 mph wind, and a soaking rain. Watched  two foursomes go off.

I'm optimistic this year should be pretty decent for our area.

Any of you people close enough, think about this. Holimont has a weekday plan that gives you ten days for $200 which includes lessons if you are interested in them. $20 a day is pretty darn cheap. Especially when you can do laps all day in solitude.

It's only good on weekdays and if you can sneak away it's worth it. You can download the information on their site.

Yeah, Holimont is a great place to ski. I will probably be there this year when I am not at Greek Peak. It is becoming my favorite place to ski because of the great snow quality and lack of huge crowds. The people I have met who ski there and have memberships there are all great too - which is another thing that keeps me going back.

You're not gonna be able to do laps in solitude if you keep telling people about it.

I'm just looking for an excuse to go back to Ellicottville.  Name the date, and I'll try to be there.

I'll be out west the last week of jan & first week of feb (roughly coinciding with the Epic SLC trip), and out east XMas week, but other than that the winter's unplanned. (other than going skiing every weekend of course).
i should definitely be able to make it on the friday, whether it's in january or feb. holiday valley is not my favorite place to be on saturdays, but if those free passes come through, i'm in for that as well. if this year is half as good as last year, the snow will be great no matter what date you pick. i also plan on being at holimont every thursday and friday this year as long as there's snow on the ground.

The 12 plus inches we're getting right now will help.

Early Feb I think. Pick a Friday.
