the globe: http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/massarotti/2009/09/soxyanks_in_just_another_phase.html

glad that D.O. (the big pop-up early in the year) has himself filled in the hole he had put in the lineup; in fact, he leads the league in hr's since early june. and nice to hear the jason bay ain't manny ramirez chatter significantly quieter. dude's been HUGE for the sox since he got there.

bring it.

The fan that laughs last laughs hardest and best.  Yankers and Sux are the AL teams to beat.  Detroit's nicked up and the Angels are, well the Angels.  Phillie's poised to repeat, but the Dodgers are looking good this year.  It might be cool to see the Dodgers with Manny VS the Sox.  Anyway, it's time to playball!
I think the worst thing you could say to a Red Sox fan is, the games don't mean anything to our team.
congrats to yankees and fans.
hope we meet again, like in a couple weeks .

Yeah, I think Swisher will have sobered up by then.

After 18 games, the Yankees & RedSox are 9-9, with New York ahead 101-99 in runs.
I can see another 7-game ALCS in the tea leaves, and I'll go out on a limb here and predict that the impact players for each team will be Phil Hughes & JD. Drew (everywhere else, they're so evenly matched).
Go Yanks!
Hughes has been a big difference-maker, hasn't he? Interesting to see if he'll get to start again further down the line. He's really got them back to playing 7 innings and out.
like the sox, joba's a wild-card.
To me the big advantage for the Sox is Francona. Girardi is a wild card, even if he's been there as a player.

An a-bomb by a-rod....

The chowds are very quiet.

The Yankees are playing great baseball at the right time of the season.

Having  the best record in baseball this season, i'd say they have been playing great ball all year.

If they can get past the Angles, they will win it all.

Get past the Angels?  Don't count your eggs before the chicken's been laid.

The Sawx may be in the corner but don't count them out just yet.

That last win is the hardest to get.  Kind of like the last out.
What the hell was I saying to say that about the last out!!!
Well, the Sox are back to breaking our hearts again.  This should shake out the pink hat bandwagon fans.

Firesale in the offseason.

LET'S GO PATRIOTS!!!!

Swept and the Donkos took care of Brady and clan too.

Tears in Beantown huh?
 Nah, it's only a game.

Ski season's coming, nothing to cry about!

Plus there's always hoping the Angels beat the Yankees.  I think I enjoy the Yankees losing more then the Sox winning anyways.

Still the chowds are quiet.   They must all be out playing golf.
The Yankees played last night?

I missed it, I was watching the G-Men hand a game over to the Cards...

OK so Lady GaGa talks her way in to the Yankee locker room after the Mets game drinking whiskey and scantily clad (or skank-aly clad).  I've always thought she was trying to out Madonna Madonna, but.....

NBA and NHL are over.  Champion's League is over. Not much interest in the Gold Cup.  No, I'm not a Yankees fan, actually much prefer the Mets and Rays (Twins are OK too).  I guess it's time to bump the baseball.  With them beaners on a roll I figured this thread is as good as any baseball thread to bump.

Who do ya like this year?

MLB sucks. OMG it's June 18 and the Pittsburgh Pirates are hovering around.500. Can the Buccos finally achieve a winning season??? Will Bob Nutting sell off his young stars on the brink of competing. Will Seven Springs ever open Laurel Mountain?

MLB  is the only one of the 4 major NA sports where winning the division matters, so the whole 162 game season actually matters. It's not just 80+ games of 'Pre-Season' followed by a playoff that every team is involved in. Hello, Hockey and Basket Ball. In the NFL one key injury and the season is over... too much dumb luck involved, and you can finish 3rd in your division and still make the playoffs. 16 games played once a week, it's like a quick hook-up in a barroom bathroom (sorry Steelers fans, couldn't resist).

Base ball is like a romance, no other sport has an ebb and flow like it. It just says 'Summer' to me. Watching a pitcher throw a No-No, seeing walk-off hits, players passing milestones... base ball rules.

MLB only really sucks for Cubs and Pirates fans.  roflmao.gif

Even though the Mets are the most notorious nonono2.gifend of season choke artists in any sport ever I still get excited every time they are in a playoff race..

DIE BRAVES DIE!!!!!!!!!!

Love to see David (Rays) slay Goliath (Yankees) too.

And no clock. There is always the chance/opportunity for a come from behind win, no matter how far you are behind.

The RedSux as you referred to them earlier are on quite a roll. Off to one of the toughest starts in history and now gelling pretty well. Gonzalez is an amazing hitter and just a joy to watch.I'm a huge Pedroia fan though, just a tough hard nosed ballplayer all around.Maybe one pitcher slot to fill some time between now and the trade deadline and they will be looking pretty sweet.Obviously too early but I don't think it would be going out on a limb to say they could go pretty deep into October with this club.(knock on wood!)  BTW Happy Father's Day to all that it applies to.   Dave

I wish they'd get rid of the wildcard. The "race" is meaningless.
