Need Demo Recommendations:

Thread Starter
I am looking to add to my currently 1 ski quiver which is the Legend 8000 that I absolutely love. I am 5'11" 185 and a solid 7. Live in NY and do most of my skiing in the Catskills and VT with a trip or 2 out West every year.

I am looking for something about 90 under foot that is more geared for softer snow (For trips out West and dumps on the EC.) to complement the 8k's. I like a playful ski that is not too heavy. For example the Volkl Grizzly was way too heavy for my liking.

I am thinking about demoing the Helldiver, Mantra and the Prophet 90/100s. Suggestions, comments.

Thanks.

If you love the 8ki, then the MR is the next logical step.

Helldiver....is nearly as heavy as the Grizz.
Mantra....I own one but don't like it much in soft snow relative to similar width skis.
Prophets....I like the 100. Not as much a fan of the 90.

However the aforementioned Watea 94 is very hard to beat as a soft snow biased mid width ski. I also prefer the Volkl Bridge over the Mantra or the Prophets.

Also, the Scott Misson.

Keep in mind that, you would probably like a bigger ski like 100-105 underfoot in soft snow and many of them are quite capable all around skis.

I own the Bridge and it is a awesome ski. It is a great soft snow ski, a little heavy for my liking but not a heavy ski. Gotama's are one of the highest rated skis I have seen so also consider that.

good luck

This may not help you at all due to the condition that I was skiing in and the deficiency of the skier...

I really loved the feel of the Wateo 94 and Mythic when I demoed them on crusted crud last year. The Watea skis very much like my (slightly shorter) L8K with maybe a slightly better bite. The Mythic OTOH was a different story. It had much better edging and it was very stable at any speed. And, they can be fast.

Now, the Prophet OTOH I didn't care for much at all in the same condition but I might be the minority.

I have not ski'd many of these but in addition to the volkls named above, these are the names which come up most often in this category. Im contemplating the same type of ski to add to my quiver:

prophet 90

head 90

moment tahoe

punisher/mission

monster 82
liberty hazmat
blizzard-cronus, 8.7/8.1

All depends on your preferences for flex, camber, rebound etc.  Search sierra Jim's posts as ive found the superinformative and better then printed magazines "guides". As always your personal feel is what should dictate. For example, im not a fan of the mythic rider and lots of folks love it.
.
Ive never heard anyone say anything anything negative about the watea either so id start demoing there. There also not made in third world
