Help me buy new boots!!!!

I'm trying to compile a list of likely suspects in my hunt for new boots this season.

Allow me to begin with this: I understand that no one can tell me what boot will fit my foot without actually seeing my foot!  All I'm looking for is which boots from across the brands will have the characteristics I want.  I will then visit my friendly local bootfitter with an idea of what I want to try on.  This information will also help me call around to find WHICH bootfitter / shop may have boots I could want actually THERE and IN MY SIZE for me to try on, which is not always easy wearing a 24.5(ish).

So that being said, I am coming out of an '06 Technica Diablo Magnesium.  For my new boot I would like something that is stiffer through the tongue and cuff, but not a full-on race boot.  As far as I can tell "freeride" boots tend to have similar flex, but more cushioning?  I assume that's what I'd want...  Also, I would like to look into AT boots.  I keep hearing about new touring boots that are super stiff and respond like an alpine boot.  I seem to remember maybe also reading about an "alpine" boot with a walk switch?

So what do you think?  Who makes what models that fit my description?  What should I ask for when I call shops to check for brands and my size?

Awww... really?  Thats it?  I was really looking for some ideas here.  I have no idea where I'm coming from, but I know some shops around here carry brands that others do not.  Rather than visit two, or even three different fitters I'd much rather be able to pick shops where I can actually try on the boot I might want...  My regular guy doesn't carry any AT boots, for example, so I'm going to have to find someone that does.  I just wanted to know what I may be looking for.

Stupid boot questions.  They never work.
