My New Iphone Skiing App

I downloaded the free JH Tapped app on my Iphone a few weeks ago.  It's pretty cool.  Some of my supervisors were beta testing it last winter, but wouldn't share it.  It has a trail map that can be scaled up and down, and uses the GPS feature of the phone to show your current position.  It also tracks your runs and shows them on the map along with the vert that you have skied that day.  It also has a map of the base area, links to conditions, web cams, ski school, and other stuff I haven't fully checked out.  It is summer after all.  I think it may be in development for other areas but don't have details right now.  I haven't been on the mountain with it yet.  It told me I was "off the map".  When i pressed it further, it gave me lat and long and showed a map of my street in Jackson.  COOL!

That's cool, it'd be great if they'd do other ski areas.  I checked their website and at least right now, it's JH only.

 That's cool.
I recently downloaded the iTrailmap 3D which has trailmaps of all(or nearly all) ski resorts in the world with a gps option that shows a satellite view which can pinpoint your position.
I recently took it out to Caberfae peaks which is 20 minutes from me and tried the GPS locator.  Pretty cool stuff!

I just looked up the JH tapped app on Itunes.  It is put out by Resorts Tapped LLC.  I'm guessing that the name of the artist implies that they'll be doing more than JH.

I downloaded it and have been playing with it this morning,
It has...
General:
  • 6 different web cam views
  • active web pages to ski school, guides, race programs, adaptive skiing, camps, etc...
  • Village map
  • contact info
  • Lift status
  • Ski conditions

Personal
  • logs: enters how many feet, how many runs and catalogs the date.

This is a really cool app!!

What does it mean that I'm checking the JH app to check web cams for fresh snow?

Don't feel bad TC, I have been doing the same thing since I saw this thread yesterday. For the longest time all I wanted was a cell phone that could make a phone call, now I have an iPhone and I must admit to being a total addict.

And where's a Symbian version?

I tell you what I'd really appreciate - if resorts had free wifi connections on hill (perhaps a code with your lift ticket).
For those of us foreigners who ski anywhere not in our home country, the cost of using apps is extortionate (roaming data in the US costs me about $10 per MB and $5 in Europe)

If it was more affordable, I'd use it a lot more.

I was talking with the developer last week.  A new improved version is on the way.  No word yet on other resorts, but maybe.

Thanks for the heads up on that.  I will definitely check it out.  I'm even thinking
about building my own iPhone app for skiing!  Well, maybe not me building it,
but someone building it for me!  I think it'd be cool to be able to post near real-time
pics while out skiing for others to see.  Going to get that iPhone app now...

I was a little disappointed to find my free app bricked last week.  I ponied up the money and feel like it is worth it for the paid version.
