ESA Stowe Stoke! 2009 - Page 8

Went skiing today. Skinned up and skied down Centerline-Lord-North Slope. It didn't suck. I'm actually surprised BWPA hasn't posted pics yet. I guess he really was hungry.

What's wrong with English sports cars in the winter? My only car for 7 years (yes, Winters too) was a 1967 Triumph GT-6 ! And of course I still have it....35 years and counting!

Ah yes, it does not go without comment when we check in at DIA.  Dillon and Silverthorne residents with skis heading for VT...

Thanks for the clarification on the weather again, Tog!

I was really hungry Stowe Dogs for those not in the know has cheap and good food. Bacon and Maply hot dog, with sweet potato fries for 5 bucks. You can eat cheaply in stowe!

Only got a couple of skiing but lots of people out having fun today.

A ripping group of Stowe instructors

Cam, Steve on skis in the back, unnamed boarder, Cutie Marissa up front, our own Epic, and Dave Merriam

more pics later, its pretty good up top they most like wont openign on friday but it looks favorable next week still.

Shocker!
News flash: There's a reason the English don't make cars anymore...and also why Ski companies don't make "straight" skis anymore...
Not that there's anything wrong with them!

Ok, Rossi, if you haven't seen this site you should check it out and think about putting a V8 in that mother. There's a lot of really nice work done by people on that site for those cars. Oh, don't mind that the blocks usually crack behind the liners...Hey, I"ve got 225k miles on one..

Looking more and more like Stowe will be my first time on skis this season... Too soon to bring out the new Gots?
The Goats?
Well, maybe you're planing to hike somewhere. The top of Mt. Mansfield? You might want even more rocker coming down off that.
Let's see bbinder= BB, Bob Barnes =BB. What would BB do?
(answer: claim the bindings on the Goats were broken and have to ski the slaloms )

so...how are those bindings?

or...bring something old and straight for Friday morning before esa for retro rehash. Then you'll be sufficiently emboldened to ski anything.

The resident weather expert at Mad River Glen, Josh Fox, is excited by this storm.

"The playing field next week appears similar in some respects to late December 2002 when a system of similar potential crossed the country and questions regarding the strength of a southeast ridge loomed large. In the end, the El Nino, of a similar strength to this year beat the southeast ridge to a pulp and the storm pulverized interior New England and brought some of the best X-Mas skiing to Vermont ever. I have faith that this El Nino can perform up to 2002's standards especially when combined with a very negative NAO. I therefore am cautiously expecting a big event beginning early Wednesday and persisting into Thursday. I am currently watching the latest and just released information from the European model which suggests a snow to sleet then back to snow type of progression. Such a result would be a great base-building" type of event and if the storm tracks 200 miles further south the results could be more incredible with snow in feet and some epic early season powder."

It has been snowing steady here in PA for a few hours now. TWC says a cold front and wind are just behind it so hopefully this will blow your way with the wind at it's back!

snowing hard to town level right now!! dusting so far.
Well you can officially fire up the ski season engine for '09 now, snow is here!
Ludlow is now a winter wonder land. Upper air must be cold because town temps were actually a little above freezing but snow stuck to everything. Difficult to say amount in town, early snow was very fluffy yet wet. Maybe there's three inches? Definitely a solid two - that's on the ground. Everything is covered.

Northern Vt's weather is set up for a great week.  There is instability and warm lake water which means a stretch of intermittent snow for the whole week.  Storm Tue/Wed should bring a foot with sleet which will be great for base building.  Plenty of snow in the air.

Josh Fox's report is due Tuesday.  He reports for Mad River which is pretty much the same weather as Stowe.
