Oh My GOD Magnum!!! I am now scarred for life...

Thread Starter

About 2 years ago I was reading one of those “best ski movie/worst ski movie” threads and saw mention of this film called “Copper Mountain” that featured a young Jim Carrey.  I found this intriguing for a couple of reasons.  First, I am a Rocky Mountain Super Pass holder and spend a few days each year at Copper.  Second, I have always enjoyed Jim Carry.

After reading the thread I logged on to Netflix and sure enough, there is was, so I added it to the queue.  Well, after two years of my wife and daughter moving things ahead of it, Copper Mountain arrived in my mailbox on Saturday.  Cool, I thought.  This beats watching another Warren Miller movie.   Last night my wife and I plugged the DVD in and pushed play…

I am not going to ruin the storyline, or otherwise talk about the movie.  What I will say is that I am probably going to get a Colorado Pass next year in order to punish Copper for being a part of this debacle!  I will also never be able to enjoy a Jim Carrey movie again without having nightmarish flashbacks of this movie pop into my head, not even Dumb and Dumber which really pisses me off! Seriously, they could do away with waterboarding and just show this movie once a day at Guantanamo!

If you have not watched this movie, I dare you… no, I triple-dog dare you to watch it without hitting the fast forward button.  If you can manage that, I dare you to buy the Ronnie Hawkins greatest hits cd!

Matt, put Steep on the list and see if it can cleanse some of the bad taste in your mouth.

Couldn't be worst than that low budget porno movie where the only connection to skiing was some  Corky Fowler -cornice jump poster over the grungy sofa they moaned and waiiled on..

Can't remember the name of that one, but I thought I'd see a little skiing.

Previously this post was about how depressing Steep was because of the lineup of suicide attempts.  Got to see it tonight, and thought it was a lifing tribute to a number of skiers no longer with us.  If nothing else, the music selections didn't make me want ot run out of the room.  Anyway, turns out while I was shredding the gnar in Ohio, the first descent of the Grand Teton was happening.  I wasn't so hot as my teen mind led me to believe after all.

A few years later a friend of mine tried to be the first person to do it on tele skis.  He died.  Another adrenalin junky who needed therapy, not adulation for his stunts.

I recently read "The Eiger Obsession" by John Harlin III, about climbing the mountain that obsessed, and finally killed his father.  He tells how his sister never recovered from the loss of their father.  He did a quick and safe route in good weather, and expects to watch his kids grow up.

You knew Dan?

That was a sad thing and this is a very small world.
