I am thinking of a monoski in jackson hole

Thread Starter
hi, I am skiing-in-jackson's daughter

My name is Eden Stahr, I am sure some of you remember me you know the green jacket and pink pants.

I saw a man on one under thunder lift and it looked like fun. I'v been begging dad to let me try and know I want one for a whole year.

He said yes.

Well I want a monoski this coming year. Ebay has nothing and the internet has nothing. Can  someone PLEASE tell me more about the monoski? my dad knows nothing about these things!

I saw a man on one at JH back in 2006 or 2007.  My guess is it was the same guy.  Have your dad ask around locally -- I'll bet someone knows who it is, and he might give you some info.  (On the other hand, he might have had his since they were briefly popular (well, a little popular) 20 or so years ago.)

Maybe when Bob Peters gets back in town he will know.

All you ever wanted to know, gathered here:

http://lateralpressure.yuku.com/blateralpressure

notice that a lot of folks are looking into big snowboards for mono-mounting.

One thing not immediately noticeable as  mentioned there is:

http://www.teleboardusa.com/productlist.cgi?prodtype=boards#

From first hand experience, I can tell you that part 2 and part 4 of this tutorial:

http://www.monoski.net/howto.html

are highly relevant to alpine skiers just crossing over, esp. ones who don't know from White Pass turns.

The concept of -just- balancing on the inside little toe edge and managing transition without pressuring the big toe (and thereby -not- attempting to bend the monoski in half taco-style) is something that took me a good 3 hours of over-cranked turns (turn until going uphill, then fall over) to sort out.

You know that place called the darkside? Go about a mile past it and hang a left ;-)

Glen Plake could ski on an ironing board and make it look good.

I could see trying a mono ski in soft snow, I would not want to try one on most days at JH.

Don't toss your pair of skis!

You should post this same question over on the TGR Forum: www.tetongravity.com/forums/

There are a ton of Jackson locals on that site....  some of whom Mono ski.  One of the members, Rontele, is a big monoskier, but he doesn't live in Jackson.  You may have seen "Iceman" monoskiing at JH.  He monoskis in jeans.

Just post it in the "Ski/Snowboard" forum....  It will get more views that way.  Make sure you put "Rontele" in the thread title so he'll see it...

I just saw one on da 'bay a couple weeks ago. I think it went for about $250. I had it on my watch list out of curiosity, but I wasn't able too dig it back up on a completed listings search for some reason. They come along every now and then. Ebay is appropriately named because the key to it is a lot like fishing - PATIENCE.  Set up an auto search that will send you an email when one is listed simply by doing a search for what you are looking for and then click on "save this search" when the results (or lack of) come up.

You could also try posting a want ad in "want it now" , or maybe you could have that krp8128 guy make you one with custom graphics and everything! (should only cost half as much as a PAIR of skis right?)

But yea, you're probably just as likely to find one by networking here and over at TGR. Maybe post an ad in gear swap.

Every now and then I get the same crazy idea. I kinda ski with my legs welded together anyway...............

IMO, this kind of request is what custom builders like Kyle and 333skis were put on this planet for.

FWIW, there's a guy in Austria doing something he calls 'nordicboards', basically narrow monoskis with one binding and a super-plate:

When we were at JH last year, there was a guy we rode the bus with last year in a yellow/red Marmot one piece. He had a Dynastar monoski

Rocker on that thang?

To paraphrase 'If it slides good, It is Good'

Nice job Eden,  next step is the bumps.  nothnig better than a Monoski for skiing mogulscool.gif

^^^prickly: no rocker, just traditional camber and a pretty nice side cut. The brand is Lunar.

Eden loves it.

Yeah a chance meeting with JH Monoman's wife at Casper Resturant led to a fun conversation. The shop keeps a few pairs of snow blades and this monoboard. Note the date of the original post. Eden has been hound doggin' me for years.

A few years back she met some folks from Quebec- a whole gang- with monoboards. So yes, there is a French Connection.
