Has anyone got a look at the 2010 volkl mantras? Ive seen they have changed the ski and im thinking about getting a pair. Does anyone know where they are made?  And my next question is about my marker dukes......... They squeek like crazy!!! anyone else have this problem??
The 2010 Mantra is unchanged from last year, which I am skiing, except the graphic. They are still made in Germany which is a big plus against the Goat. As for the Duke I cannot answer. I ski them with Jesters.

The Gotama is the rockered (actually extended tip profile) one for this year, the Mantra is unchanged from last year.

Ok thanks guys. What do you think of the mantra as a big mountain ski?  right now I have k2 apache coomba's and they are great on powder days or when the snow is soft but when the snow gets hard they arnt the greatest. Im looking at the matras because ive heard they are good in all conditions. what do you guys think? also does your catalog say if the 2010 katanas still have the swallow tail?
Saw the new line in a shop here today. Mantra looks the same (graphics aside); Katana lost the ``power channel'' and just has a bit of turn-up at the tail, flat camber with rockered tip; Gotama is the biggest change, tip & tail rocker, flat camber. Gotama graphics better, lost the Chinese junkyard look although could do without the huge Buddha silkscreen.

The mantra is an excellent 'all-around' ski, which is a bit different from being a 'big mountain' ski... but semantics aside, what makes it excellent all around is it's strong edge grip and significant amount of sidecut. Both are nice to have on hard snow but some people prefer much less sidecut in soft snow. Opinions and taste both vary. If versatility is #1 then it's great, if high speeds in mixed snow is #1 then maybe not.

My opinion is the Mantra is more 'super mid-fat' than powder ski or 'Big Mountian' ski.

Whiteroom is spot-on IMO super mid fat is a nice way to say what this ski is all about..  VERY versatile for a ski of this width, just look at the turning radius..  QUICK....  Not a big mountain however...  Nice edge hold....

Hey WHITEROOM what do you consider a big mountain ski?

Dynastar Legend Pro's, Rossignol Phantom 98/ 108, Kastle MX98, Blizzard Argos, Line Prophet 100, Stockli Scot Schmidt/ DP+  would all be examples. The Dynastar Legend Pro more or less defines the genre.

You could throw PM Gear Bro's in there as well....  Really nice crud ski that I find similar to the Legend pro...  I own the 183's...

So how many years have the Mantras been uncharged except for the graphics?  so i know how old a set i can get used

They changed the dimensions of the ski for the 2007-2008 season and added some width overall from tip to tail.
