howdy, kidz,

here's joe bastardi's (Chief Meteorologist & Expert Long Range Forecaster) long range projection from accuweather.com:

http://www.accuweather.com/news-weather-features.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&date=2009-07-14_2125&month=7&year=2009

i'm keepin' my fingers crossed & skis tuned for a cold & snowy season here in ne pa...we've not had any decent snow accumulation for about 7 yrs

thx,

bruce marks

Definatly disagree with your interpretation of "Bad for Rockies and NW".  Bastardi says "Warmer and Drier than the past two (good to epic) Winters".  Utah got 600" last year, so only 500" this year?  I don't think they are shaking in their boots.

As for us (East), we should have a relatively good year and I'm betting on it as well.  Just as I'm planning my next epic trip out west!

I hope we can say hasta la vista el Nino !!!  Warm and dry does not bode well for the Pacific Northwest.  Anyone willing to sell me insurance on my season pass - just in case there's not enough snow ???  Discounted season passes go on sale at my local resort from Aug 15th - Sept 15th - should I buy ???

Buy.  Don't cancel Christmas.  I would not fear a weak to moderate el nino in the Cascades.  I would however, fear a strong on.  Hold out until the last minute just to be sure it's not a strong one.

For Stevens Pass?  Yes, I'll be buying a midweek pass for $199.  I figure I can get at least 4 days.  '04-'05 was not a usual event.  The chances of us being left with nothing are pretty poor.

It probably won't be a great year, though.  Sort of like last season.

Depends on what you mean by the West, I suppose.

Those of us who ski Tahoe should see a lot to like in the projected storm track off the Pacific:

Hey, i'm allraight with mountains opening for Halloween in Tahoe like they did a few years ago.

So the rockies will be off on snow, they'll still get enough to put the NE to shame. only place i can think of that i would be avoiding is dirtstone(keystone, they are jus in a bad place for bad snow years).

Has anyone seen a year over year predictions vs actuals for his forecast?  I'd like to know how they panned out vs what was predicted.  If you have last years or the year befores please post it.  Thanks.

Hell yeah!  Cold in my part of the coutry.  I guess that means there will be plenty of man-made piped on to the hill this year!  Now I just have to hope for clear skies.

I'd love for this to be true, as mid-A winters have sucked for a while now, but Joe does not have a real good track record in this area, in my opinion.  I wouldn't raise or lower my hopes on this guy's loooong range prediction.

If anything I would believe the OPPOSITE of what's predicted.  It seems like whatever they predict has been turning out 180 degrees from what happens.

Good point. Anyone got some kind of stat sheet on this guy. Predictions are difficult.  See, Ryan Leaf, charles white, hershall walker etl al.
