I know it's been about three billion years since my last post. Life has been SO busy. Hope everyone is well.
So, I have gotten more and more into cycling and finally joined Team in Training and am going to ride the El Tour de Tucson in November. I am shooting for a gold medallion (finish in less than 7 hours -- women).
So, anyway ... in addition to pedalling. I am thinking about sports nutrition. AND, about how expensive all of those calories are going to be.
Yesterday at TARGET I made a fascinating discovery. =)
They sell (in the granola bar section) boxes of "fruit bars" (compressed fruit in a long skinny bar). Six to a box for $3 or less. (brand: Archer Farms)
Each bar has 140 calories of carbs, no protein, a spec of fat and fiber. They also have a whopping 30mg sodium and 230 mg potassium.
A) GU, SHOT Blocks, Sharkies etc ... aim for that nutritional makeup
B) these bars cost about 50 cents each compared to the $1.50 - 2.50 price of the other products
Had to share!
