FYI for new readers: 'vintage' in this context generally means 'prior to 1983' but includes recently built bikes using elements of vintage bicycle technology, most often steel tubing and brazed lug construction.

Good to see one of my Ijsboerke-Gios teamates in uniform!  Where's your leather helmet?

The leather hairnet is frowned upon for our group rides and is only used for display of period kit, In fact one from this group went down and broke his collar bone. It is great fun to roll up and down the group and see all the great old bikes that are brought here each year.

Rossi in a helmet!? Say it ain't so! You know there's no proof they do any good. I agree the collarbone was probably caused by helmet use, riders take more risks while wearing 'em, ya know. I'm sure you showed restraint and didn't tell your fallen comrade "I told you so!".

Great pictures, thanks for the links. I wish I had gone out there this year.

Rod,

This ain't skiing....I always wear a helmet out on the bike, battling the 4000 pound cars and asphalt.

I've been forced of the road, hit in intersections, found sand where I wish I hadn't and nearly taken out by a deer.

The pictures are from some of the other participants. I don't even bring a camera...I just go again the next year to see more great bikes!

Yeah, cars suck. Getting run over by one is no fun, even with a helmet on, I know.

Oh snap! Good one. Motorcycles scare me worse than cars. I typically position myself in the center of the lane in heavy traffic. When a motor passes me in my lane, I always get startled.

I did think that looked suspiciously like Steven M.
