hello to all

first time on this forum

so...I found some great deals on the following skis:

dynastar contact 10 in a 165 cm and 172cm

monster im 77 in a 163 and 170 cm

elan magfire 10 in a 168cm

I am 5'8 and about 210lb

intermediate skier 90 piste but looking to do/learn more multi terrain

I have not had a chance to demo any of these

i used my friends  xrc 500 last year in a 170 i think and I did not like it much

please advise me from the list above what ski and what length might be good for me

thanks

Hi Demumin.

What didn't you like about the xrc500s?

And where do you do most of your skiing?

Midwest (MI, WI, IL) nothing special

what I did not like is the fact the 500 did not hold to good on icy groomed (everything here is almost always groomed) I also felt iffy at higher speeds

I'm looking for a ski (under $400.00 w /binding) that I can grow into and one that I can use if I get lucky and go west or east skiing next season.

OK, based on that, I suspect the best one from the list would be the Contact 10 in 172cm. The length will be more suited to your weight, and the ski itself should prove to be stiffer and have better grip than the 500xrc.

...but wait for a few others to give you some more advice on the matter!

From that list I would guess the Dynastar Contact 10 is your best bet, though I haven't actually skied it; I'm just going on hear say.

If you go with the Monster, get the 170 (or longer).

From what I can recall the Magfire 10 is pretty soft for 210 lbs.

The Contact 10 @ 172 should do well for you...  Very good on hard pack and stable at speed.
