This is dead on advice. Haines is no secret, and the permitted flying area as well as the number of choppers in use are not as endless as it appears in the ski media. Going on a trip earlier in the season (February or March) means less light and inconsistent weather, but you'll also have less "crowds" and better snow. SEABA is one of two operations out of Haines for the Chilkat Mtn range with reasonable prices and a solid group of guides- and you can stay at the Fort Seward Lodge as part of an all-inclusive package. But as dharmaline said, you go for the skiing, don't expect an Aspen meets NYC experience...if you want that, don't go to Haines.
