PM notification?

Don't know if this is covered before.

I don't get pop up notifying me I have PM now. Nor do I see any option in the profile that controls it. So is e-mail the only way now to realize there's a PM?

Again, this is an epic only issue. I'm still getting pop up notification on all other boards I participate in.

To the right search block it tells you if you have any new messages.

I know that. But must I keep checking on that?

In the old (and better?) board, I don't have to check. I got to choose to have a pop up to let me know.

PLus, hate to state the obvious. some of us prefer NOT to look to the right, of all the distracting ads.

For me it's the email notification that does the job.  Plus unlike other boards the email has the body of the PM in int.

Due to my unable to turn off "subscription" long ago, I actually send all epic e-mail to an account I don't check much.

Except now I don't get notification of PM since there's no option to get it via pop up.

The power of computer is options to suit different preferences. Take away the options, we might as well go back to paper magazines and billboard advertisements. Such "improvement", compare to the old board where both you and I can happily co-exist: you via e-mail, me through pop-up! ;-)

You can opt out of email notification if you simply go to My Profile and edit your Account Details. If you choose to do that, if you have any unread PMs the number of New Messages is indicated in the box in upper right header.

I have email notification turned off, but I DO get email notifications of PM's with the body of the PM in the email.  I don't get notification of thread updates.

Works for me,  just check my home page for subscription updates.

A person can request email notification of either/both PMs or threads.

I don't see this choice, where is it?

Select "no email" for subscription updates and then check "send PMs and BB posts via email." Notice of your thread subscriptions won't be sent but your PM notices will.

Last few times I tried to changed the profile, it quirked out on varies entries it didn't like. So I'm left with unable to change the profile. Not a big problem since I can block the e-mail. Though didn't expect e-mail being the ONLY notification for PMs.

That's ok, I'll just be un-responsive with regard to PMs, until the pop-up notification becomes available as an option again...

Some features are "minor", except when their absent being a result of an "upgrade". ;-) Go down much better if it's a "down grade".

Under "Edit Account Details" on your Profile page.

I've opted out of the pop ups on all forums anyway, so the manner that the huddler platform shows me that I have pm's is fine, in fact, I really like the way they show up on my home page.

I'd like a bigger notice or have it located in a different area.  When I come into the Home page, it's easy to see the subscriptions that have been updated in the last 24 hours (although I preferred the old forum MUCH MORE) but the PM notice is way over to the right in small letters.

Notice that the subscriptions on your home page are now based on the number of updates since you last read the thread, not the last 24 hours.  I know I wanted it that way and it's been implemented.

Also on your homepage is a list of your most recent PMs (on the right side) with any new ones highlighted.  The indicator on the top right is available on all pages, so you can see if anything has changed.

I can see if I get LOTS of PM's, the pop up would get real annoying real fast.

But I don't usually get that many PM's. So I don't ever look at the PM  counts for days or even weeks. That's why I prefer to get pop up notification, which was available in the "old and feature rich" forum.

Granted, this is the least of my concern these days. The way the trend is going, I don't know if I even care about anything about the forum any more. If the polls and search don't get back to the same functional level of the old forum by the start of next season, I'd definitely be out of here...

at_nyc I guess you really prove the concept that it is the Medium, not the Message that is important.

As to me the content (other amazing skiers and people's ideas) that is the most important.  So I'd stick around for that even if it was in an ugly 1980's  BBS interface!

We now have at least 90% of the search features vB offered.  If you have any specific feedback regarding other ways we can improve search, we're all ears

If we never had WWW, BBS would have continue to rule and bloggers would have simply type on a text terminal over a 320 boud modem, right? Do you think the most knowledgable skiers will blog page after page after they had an epic day?

The medium must reflect the time and encourage the message to flow. In this board and every board out there, the number of lurkers way out number the posters. In that lurker pool, there're seas of knowledge they never get to share. Wisdom we never get to hear.

But for advertisers, they don't care about the poster or their messages, they only care about the lurker and their money. The new forum isn't about encouraging more substantial messages. It makes room for advertisement while taking away many feature that made the previous forum easy to use that could encourage lurkers into posters.

With that kind of medium, the message will follow the same route.

Keep in mind also, the complain (bitching) was never about how the fluffy side of the board, whether it's "pretty", "flashy", fashionable, or "outdated", "dull", etc. It's largely about the functionality. USEFUL functionality that was taken away!

BTW, I can no longer browse, never mind post, in the new forum during the day. The outlandishly flashy and huge ads screams "NOT WORK related"! I simply can't open it at work!
