Yeah, I had quite a crew on a chair ride this season at Vail.
I was in the singles line and paired up with a threesome. They barely acknowledged my joining them, or so I thought, after politely asking if I could join them. Then (not understanding the lift maze) suggested that I may want to move up to the threesome ahead of them, while another single was joining that party from the singles line on the other side of the maze. They seemed a bit frustrated with having to ride the lift with me. (Oh well)
So once we are just past the 2nd tower I ask if they are ready for the bar. The guys, of course make a big joke out of it, saying it's too early in the AM (etc etc) so I slowly begin to drop the bar catching "what's her names" (on the far end of the chair) arm in the process. She, of course, bitches about not having any warning on the bar.
So, during the long ride up Vail's Northstar's lift (looking at the guy next to me's turned back all the way) I (without too much effort) discover they are from central Long Island, NY from the pointless Seinfeld type dribble of a conversation. Nearing the top I clear my hands and feet from the bar and wait. Now they ask if "I" had any plan to raise the bar. I indicate I do and ask (and get no response) as to whether they are headed right or left. Well, I did get sort of a head shake and a "huff" noise, but that's it.
I figured that my direction of choice really didn't matter to them so as the chair approached the ramp I just did a "racing start" type kick out of the chair and hung an IMMEDIATE left, leaving the ramp about 2' early. Looking back I saw a tangle of 3 people off the left side of the ramp. Gee, maybe I turned a little early, I thought. I suspect the lift opp headed out to help these tangled individuals.
I hope the rest of you were not on the lift, as the stop may have delayed you. If so, I'M VERY SORRY.
