The Joy of Powder

Looking for an excuse to share this amazing video footage:

Quote:

This section won 'deepest powder' at the 2001 Powder Video Magazine Awards. It was shot in 1998, so they are on some skinny-ass skis. This was in November, so while it was shot in-bounds at Bridger Bowl the lifts were not running. Edited by Team Thirteen, shot by Nik Blaskovich. From the movie 'The Trip'.

More about Team 13.

Nice video, nolo.  Thanks for the link.

And since you brought up the width of the skis...

Wouldn't it be interesting to see some side-by-side footage of THOSE EXACT conditions with one of those same skiers on the 1998 skis and another on 2009 skis?

I imagine that the 2009 skier on a deep powder ski would go a bit faster and the skiers wouldn't be side by side for long. (BTW, the quote about skinny skis was imported from the description on YouTube.)

That's the year I arrived at Bridger. Started the season on Rossi 9Xs. They were dogs that dove and dove.

Then I wised up and got on the Bandit Series. XX, XXX. It was much better from then on. I remember learning how much more tolerable GS skis were in west coast snow being as I had moved from Tahoe at the time. That blower stuff was exhausting on stiff planks.

I think I went through 4 pairs of skis that winter. 9X. Broke those immediately. then two pairs of XXs. then a pair of XXXs.

I broke a demo pair of XXs that year. Had a pair on order, was demoing until they arrived, blew the edge. Walked into the shop pouting, he laughed at me, ordered a single ski replacement on proform to keep it cheap for me because I was blowing through skis like trash. Blower snow took some getting used to, as it turns out.

98 & 99 were good years as we were just starting to get introduced to not being forced to ski race skis in pow. I remember stepping onto the XXX and having the sport reintroduced to me.

I have that movie, "The Trip".  It's great....Team13's ski movies are some of my favorites all around actually.  I wish they would make another!! (they got out of the ski movie making biz a few years ago).
