Confused about K2 ski lengths

Thread Starter

I'm looking at Apache Recons but am confused about lengths. I've heard K2 has it's own idiosyncratic way of measuring skis. More specifically is this year's 184 last year's 181? Is the 174 this year's 177. Are they the same skis and they just measured differently than in the past?

why recons?

Yes they are the same . K2 measured contact length for a while

I can't say about the Recons, but several other K2 models gained 3cm "on paper" this year.  Same ski, they are just being more conventional with their length measurements.

Apache and Luv series are 3cm different for the more accurate.

Is the 164 cm 09/10 Extreme the same length as my 05/06 164 cm PEs, or did K2 change the way it measures ski length at some point between the 05/06 season and today?

I'm not sure I've seen a clear answer to this question for K2 ski models other than the Apache and Luv model skis.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

STE: No change.

Thanks for the response DHogg.

I was surprised to see that the PE/Extreme is no longer in the K2 lineup for next year.

It's a shame b/c its a fantastic, versatile ski.  It can ski all easter conditions.  The only time I prefer a different ski is when everything is packed down and icy. The PE/Extreme can hold a grip on eastern ice, but I find my RX8's better for those conditions.
