4-5-09 Short vid & a few pic's from Northern UT (Snowbasin).

Well it has been a fabulous 3 weeks in the Wasatch.  A better stretch of awesome ski conditions I cannot remember.  The storms finally broke today & the sun with warmer temperatures returned, so I remembered to bring my camera out after almost a month.  It is hard to believe that it is April.  We may not have recieved the abundant snow that the Cottonwoods recieved in the last couple of storm sessions, but face shots are not always needed for epic skiing.

A couple of scenic shots from this morning:

Allen's Pk & Mt. Ogden as seen from No Name Pk.

The other Peaks of Snowbasin R-L  Mt. Ogden. Needles/Porcupine Cirque. DeMoisey Pk./Middle Bowl Cirque, Strawberry Pk./Sisters chutes.

Skiing on Arrowhead in Middle Bowl Cirque.

The bottom of the bowl

My friend Jana sporting her new shades.

I am waiting for Vimeo to convert a couple of short videos, I will put them up as soon as they are ready.

Thanks for viewing,

JF

This first video is a steep narrow rocklined shot through some trees between Arrowhead & the Y chute, just to the skiers right of the first ski shot above.

This one is just off the ridge lower on the mountain in Sunshine bowl, last run of the day.  The snow was variable crud to put it nicely.  I was using some kind of "Old School" pedal jump turns.  Whatever it was, it sure was fun!

4-6-09,

A few more pics from this morning.  It was a bit warmer & the snow is beginning to change.  I did manage to find a little powder with some hikes first thing, but the skiing everywhere was still pretty good.

I was hoping the access gates to Mt. Ogden would have opened yesterday, but by the time avi control was done, it was to warm.  It was my mission first thing this morning:

The view of the peak from the top of the chute:

I posted a similar picture earlier in the year I think, but it is really filled in now:

After hitting a few rocks trying to ski a new line in the chute, I spy the more north facing Porcupine cirque:

I takes a while to get there, but the payoff is some great fresh tracks:

Today 4-7-09

Well the powder is pretty much done, although there was still a little on shaded due North aspects.  I decided to go after some corn this morning.  Temps reached 50 degrees at 9000' this afternoon, but skiing was remarkably good all day.

Our first run was up to the top & around the back for an open east facing bowl:

I was tempted to hit this shot, but it's a long trek out at the bottom:

I was left solo for the 2nd run, & this face was the object of my desire,  It was gonna be a race for me to get it before the boot packer in the photo:

He won the race, but fortunatly dropped of the other side of the mountain.

Looking back at the ridge route that I took:

Ready to roll:

These are supposed to be pictures of the tracks, but the sun was so bright they didn't come out too well:

Thanks, I feel very blessed with all the great skiing I've had the last couple of seasons.  If last year was the best season, then this is definately the best Spring I've had.

Yes, I would say that the up move was a bit exagerated, I was actually jumping over some kind of snowsnake near the top of the Sunshine video & just decided to keep the springs going.  It was kind of a wild run for me.  I'll work on it as soon as it stops snowing .

The sad thing is, we are scheduled to close on 4-19 & there is more snow on the way .
