have you paid the supporter fee??

why is the sale item here??

I haven't paid supporter fees (i'm poor... ) but I HAVE been able to post in the gear swap recently... not sure what the deal is with the restrictions.

you have been around awhile and are well fairly regarded as a member of the community---I'd not sweat the idea of seeing a sale item from you.

it is more a frustration at the loss of controls that we---the community--- established over time to protect the buyer from scams like the one that hit here and at TGR awhile back.

I'm not suggesting that this particular item is a scam---but hey 400 for 4 year old skis is suspect in and of itself......

just venting my irratation that the safeguards Phil built and implemented for ALL our collective benefits have dissapeared

its not a scam and they are in great shape.  I would be open to suggestions but I am not going to give the skis away.  I am not a pro at selling skies.  thanks

I'm more than willing to beat you up --- this is another 'benefit' we recieved in exchange for the ability to wiki!

whoopee!

have you read the rules to post a sale item very prominently displayed at the top of the gear forum??

I did not.  Perhaps that would have been appropriate had I taken the time.  This was something new for me and i am grown up and except my lumps.  I may be absent minded but definitely not hear to make harm to anyone........

Ok a read it and its fair to me.  I have no issue and can understand your steam.

This is not personal---in the old UBB format, permissions could be set so that those that were not allowed to do something---could not.

for instance.

we used to have "pro' forums for boot fitting, and one in instruction where ONLY instructors could post.

the idea was that if you had a question you could expect that the answer came from someone with the appropriate knowledge base.

In gear, Phil instituted the supporter requirement in order to mitigate --- as much as is possible -- the risk to the members of transacting business with unknown's.

the idea is that to be a supporter requires a minimum level of identity being proven to the owners of this site and that would allow at least the appearance of propriety and honesty of the sellers.

My point s that once these permission thingy's (a highly technical term) were defined and implemented into the posting rules----it was on auto-pilot.

we have a new forum platform

all these safeguards are now----apparently---gone

I, personally, am chagrined

I don't fault the people posting deals, as the rules aren't immediately obvious.  I fault the new system that doesn't automatically block the posts.  I am sure dbmski has good intentions, but the rules were implemented because a lot of people got scammed in the past, and there was no way to trace the perps.  By registering to become supporters, sellers at least leave a trail and a credit card transaction with Epic.

So developers -- please close the loophole, and mods -- please be more vigilant.  I've said it before, but the privilege to sell gear has been a key reason why I sign up as a supporter (and it's worked out well for me and for buyers).  If that feature is broken, it takes away one of my perceived benefits of being a supporter.

dbmski, good luck with the sale.  As skier_j noted, you may need to lower your price point for such an old pair of skis ($250-300 seems about right to me).  With the current end of season sales, someone can pick up brand new 09 skis for just a little bit more than $400, and the skis will have a couple years of technology over the 6*.  I agree though, don't give them away -- you may be better off keeping them rather than dropping the price below your comfort level.

I agree that when i first read this post I found it a little suspect.  An older ski from a new user for a lot of money indicates either a scam, or someone who is simply new to the interweb ski community.  I choose to assume the latter.

As far as restrictions to the gear swap, as I said b4 I am not a supporter due to a lack of funds but I have been posting here for a while now and appreciate being able to buy/sell/trade ski gear here.   If I became restricted from posting new threads in the gearswap because I can't afford the supporter fees I'd be bummed.

Just Sayin.

BTW... I have a couple threads up in gear swap right now.  Check 'em out.

I actually heard about this sight from a guy at a ski shop close to my house in Long Island.  He suggested I post them here based on experience.   After reading the posts and not having much experience I was kind of excited about giving it a try( I know geek).

After reading the first response the excitement was gone and for a second I thought I started a lynching....lol

I realize I started off on the wrong foot and I appreciate the frank response by everyone.  More importantly I realize that I may be over priced with this item and I will have to work with someone if they are interested.

Yo,

I agree with the supporter fee safeguard...altho not perfect, better than none...

I was one of the suckers who got scammed to the tune of $350 some time ago...

Someone should get the automatic supporter fee block set up again...

Cheers....

We have to manually police the Gear Swap Guidelines because the permission based posting system was broken when we moved away from V-Bulletin.  Its nothing personal, but the guidelines still apply, so if your post or link disappears, the reason is in the guidelines.  posted at the top of the forum:  Phil usually watches this forum and has been doing a lot of traveling and skiing, and was at the ESA at Big Sky this week.  I expect to see the the guidelines below continue, and there are dozens of posts in the "graveyard".  Personally, I can't wait to get the permissions fixed.

A special note to JayPowHound:  After this site hooked you up with free gear and tons of connections during the purchase of your Bros, it seem a small price to pay to get a supporter subscription, even if you are allegedly broke.  Your posts are in the graveyard, but not deleted.  Thanks for the links..

You must be an EpicSki Supporter to post a sale. Only supporters can post thread starters, any member can reply. Be aware that EpicSki merely provides the forum, the exchange is entirely up to the buying and selling parties. EpicSki plays no role in the transaction and bears no responsibility for any problems that may arise; however the relationship between supporters and the site is such that risks should be significantly reduced. If you want to sell your gear become a supporter. Your  annual supporter subscription helps to support the site to make this service possible, and establishes your real identity and email by completing a small transaction. Any information provided to EpicSki is protected in accordance with our Privacy Statement.

For your protection and privacy, be sure your user profile includes your current email address. That address is not visible on the internet and all email is delivered through the EpicSki server. Keeping your profile current ensures buyers and moderators can contact you as needed. Do not post e-mail addresses or phone numbers in your gear swap post.

Only a current EpicSki Sponsor may post commercial sales of new gear from a shop, or clearance sales of rentals, demo and similar used gear. Sponsors have also been provided a separate forum in the Community forum area. Becoming a sponsor or business level supporter

If you want to pass along a great find of a deal, links to reputable ski retailers such as Backcountry, REI, Sierra Ski and Snowboard, etc. are permitted. Since non-supporters cannot start threads, there will be several "deal" threads that non-supporters may reply to with such news.

You may post your own Ebay auction to notify members or a "Buy it Now" auction of general interest. Don't post other auctions because you might be posting an auction that a fellow Bear is planning to snipe/snag (unless it is your auction).

Posts that do not meet these guidelines may be moderated or deleted, and you will receive a private message from the moderator explaining the decision. If you believe a decision is in error simply reply and explain why your post should be allowed. These guidelines are intended for the benefit and protection of our members and to prevent "fly-by" posting by high-risk new members, solely for the sale of gear.

*This is for NEW members/supporters who sign up. If someone has been active here for a while and choose to become a supporter, this 30 day rule is waived.

No problem.  Like I stated i am new to this.  I am deciding if becoming a member is worth it at the end of the season.  Definitely would make sense for the beginning.  Thanks to everyone and who know maybe you will see this post again.
