No, what separates the local from the tourist is that you wish you had the money to BE a tourist. Without the tourist, there would be no locals.

Maybe if you'd lay off the 420, save the money, and feel the real endorphins skiing sets off, you'd understand this very simple concept.

Given your extremely myopic view of the industry, you obviously live in a 420 induced fog....

I'm not sure the local/tourist distinction matters when it comes to shutting down a resort.  It comes down to raw overall numbers.  I am sure if there was enough local demand, the places would be able to stay open longer.

Didn't know that this was now an economic discussion, making cracks at my income, yeah ok I'm like every other ski bum in the world, don't be rich stuck up snob from vail who wishes he skied real snow...  Don't  stick up for the resorts because your neighbor is  the VP at Vail and he is giving you a free pass, you living in Vail more than anyone knows that skiing is all about the money, and if you don't believe that, maybe you are the one who is on drugs...

No it really doesn't, there is plenty intrest in town to go skiing, it really has to do with them not selling 80 dollar lift tickets to people anymore, or the locals  not buying ridiculous food in the lodges.  After we give them money for our seasons pass, that is essentially the only time they make money off of a local,  so yes  tourism is what keeps the resorts open, but they most defenetely stay open only when they are making money...
