Bindings for Volkl Gotamas?

Thread Starter

I just pulled the trigger for the last pair of Volkl Gotamas 190's at Sierra Skis. It is a bit of a risk, as I haven't demoed them but I couldn't pass up the deal and all of the rave reviews.

I am new to this so I don't know what binding is appropriate for this ski. The ski's measurements are: 133-105-124mm.

I will try to provide relevant information about my skiing ability if that helps: I'm interested in hitting as much back country powder as possible with these skis, but of course will be doing all mountain activities (bumps, etc). I'm comfortable on all terrain and consider myself to be an advanced skiier, but not expert (yet).

I'm 240 lbs and 6'5".

I appreciate any help in locating an appropriate (hopefully reasonably priced!) binding. Thanks in advance!

Look PX15's w/120mm brakes

I also purchased a pair of 190 cm Gotamas this year and mounted them with Marker Griffins.  I was very happy with them as they made for an excellent lightweight setup.  I use a relatively low DIN setting of 7.5.  If I were using a higher DIN I would probably have gotten the Jesters.  The Griffins/Jesters also look great mounted on these skis.  Good luck - you will love these skis.

Buy any binding where your DIN setting is in the middle third of the scale and the brakes fit the ski's width.

Marker and Volkl (and K2) have the same owner, Jarden Corp.

I find that Look/Rossi/Dynastar binding have more delta angle that I like...the heel is too much higher than the toe.  I removed the spacer under the heel, shortened the screws, and like the stance better.

If you can't find 'em with the 120mm brakes, the PX's 100mm ones just sneak by on my Gotama's.  OTOH, if price is no object and you want to save over a pound in weight vs. the Looks, then go for the Marker Jesters.

P.S. If by "backcountry" you mean an AT binding (i.e., for hiking/skinning), then you're talking about the Marker Dukes or other stuff I know nothing about....

Huh, seriously? I knew Volkl/Marker was under the same umbrella but thought K2/Line/Karhu/Full Tilt was all part of k2. When did they sell?

K2's ownership of Volkl/Marker is old news - they bought them in 2004 (when they also bought Marmot and lord knows what else since).  Jarden then bought the whole K2 shebang in 2007.  We're buying ski gear from a company that also sells Sunbeam, First Alert, Mr. Coffee, and Seal-a-Meal - at least caffeine and skiing seem to have something in common.
