Wasatch gets nuked - Page 2

Talk about a tease...I am subscribed to the Sheriff's office Cottowood Canyon pages and I got like 12 in the last 3 days since I got home! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Okay, I know this sounds sick but I am seriously thinking about going back come Tuesday. At this rate Ballroom won't open til then anyway!

Skier219, man, lets go!

Crabs, save us some pow pow, but if the goodies open up we expect pictures. U lucky dog, you!!!!!

Don't know wher Vince F. is.

Amazing bluebird day at Alta today. Much of the pow was shredded yesterday, the storm day. Ballroom/shoulder opened as did Devils Castle. The Castle was the usual herd, but the place is so bigthat there were freshies to be had on both laps I managed. Snow was a good 30" deep or bottomless, I guess. very good all over the mountain from Catherines to Wildcat. I shot a ton of action photos, but due to operator error only two came out, which I will share below...

Devil's Castle, Pete, my most reliable subject...

High Boy, from Goldminer's patio...

According to Alta's Daily Snowfall Tracker, 170 inches from 3/22 to 4/4. A bit over 14 feet in 14 days.

Us soggy northeasterners would have been happy with 10% of that.

Be glad to meetup.  I generally put in a bunch of early season day trips at Snowshoe (opener was Nov 21 this season -- met another Epic skier there for a 10-16" powder day).  Then I do weekly day trips to Wintergreen VA ($200 season pass) once they are cranking along.  The rest of my days come from western trips, though I am really due for a Vermont trip one of these days....  ciao, paisano!

Someone shoot me a PM if there are any get to gets...

What's your avail for late April -- I'm considering a Snowbird mission, couple DCskiers might be on board too.  For that matter, anytime between now and then would rock too!

I was there 3/30 and 3/31. 22in fell in the cottonwood canyons sunday night and the road was closed till 10am. So I decided to head to Snowbasin. Blue bird day in Snowbasin with 13in of fresh pow overnight. there were probably a dozen people at the most in the line at 9am. Hit JP express and Needles gondola with fresh tracks all morning. around 11am they opened Strawberry - rushed over hit fresh tracks till 1am. They had no plans of opening No-Name that day. So I Quit.

Next day - I was trying to decide between alta and snowbird. Another 9" fell Monday. Snowbird website said - they will open Mineral basin later in the day. So I headed to Snowbird. Spoke to a few patrol guys at the base - everybody said - sorry don't have a time of opening. First tram up. When we reach the top - listened to the standard shpeil about Right of way etc, and then she says - Oh ! btw - they just opened Baldy. Whopeee.

Hiked up Baldy - Fresh and Deep - Fantastic.

So I head down - get on the next tram - chat up with a ski patrol about Mineral basin. He says they are picking up the signs give it another 30 min. So I go up and wait in the Patrol Shack for 10 -15 min. 11am - they open Mineral Basin ......................................Whoopde do - Fresh tracks on every run for the next 2 hours.

Best trip of the season.

Wish I had stayed one more day - Heard the got another 20" next day. Will try and post some pictures this week.

Good deal! I think anyone who was there will never forget it.

So Mr. Crabs, whats happening now?  What's it looking like for the next week. BTW good deal on fresh tracks, sounds like you tore it up.

Supposed to snow again on Wed.  I had a great time with the Conz while he was here. However, when they dropped the rope to Baldy Shoulder and Devils Castle I lived up to the saying "there are no friends on a powder day".  Snowbird is open until at least Memorial Day. Come and get some!!!

Oh, I don't think I am done for the year yet Vince! SKier219 and myself may hook up in a few weeks. We'll see if I can hold out that long, LOL!!!!

Alta has received another 25" in the last 24 hrs. and it is still snowing.  Expecting another 2 - 3 feet by Friday. They close on this upcoming Sunday!

Should be fantastic on Saturday and Sunday, the closing weekend.

That's me beating my horse-brain for not booking flights this week.  Stupid, stupid, stupid....

No action shots today. Sugary up top, Backside closed, Baldy shoulder and ballroom closed. Supreme closed for season, I believe... Pretty fabulous, everything off Rustler Ridge and North Rustler.

.

Got a bit thick on the bottom. Snowed all day, more tonight and tomorrow. Bottomless.

You and me both skier 219.  I actually had tickets but life is making it tough to tear away for closing weekend.  Mr. Crab, what's up with the crowds at the bottom...what's going on there?  I may still hop a flight tonight...

Oh, that's the line up before the chair started. The people in the background are just now getting on the first chairs... After that there was no line at all.  I'm working today. The boys went to Powder Mountain, 20", it's cold here at Park City, hope it was there. I'll get the report when they come back.

Looks like I'll be at Alta Saturday the 18th with a few guys.  Sure hope Devil's Castle isn't closed; it sucks that Supreme is shut down - that side rocks when the snow is deep.  I'm guessing the whole place will be tracked out by Sat. afternoon, but who cares?  All that powder will be freezing up Sat nite.

Expecting 5 - 8" tonight.  On the Alta website they are planning AM routes in for both Ballroom and the Castle.     I was hoping that there would be just enough snow tonight and into Friday that they would wait to open those on Saturday.  It will definitely be tracked out.  I also agree that is a huge bummer that Supreme is closed. Catherine's Area and East Castle are both great.

I will be at Alta on both Saturday and Sunday if anyone wants to hook up.  I wear a hard shell, dark blue over light blue, black pants, grey Giro helmet.  Scott Mission skis.

Can't get out there before Tuesday. I guess I will have to ski the bird. Whats the forecast for next week?

And Gad 2 at the Bird. There is so much terrain off of that lift that no one ever gets to. They need two people to run the bloody lift. B.S.

I agree.  Great terrain from that lift. Very frustrating that it is already closed for the season. Same with Alta closing Supreme.
