TR- Backcountry, steep, narrow ridge, helmet cam. BC, Can.

 Hello,

I've attached a link to my trip report of a recent backcountry ski day 15 minutes north of Vancouver, BC. Some pretty good helmet cam footage of skiing a long, narrow ridge before dropping into a bowl and glades.

Hope you enjoy,

Hello again, I have entered my video from the blog in a contest with MEC (Canada's version of REI) and hope that some of you who enjoyed the video could vote for my video to help support the addiction. Here's a link if you have a minute (it's really quick); http://www.mec.ca/Apps/videoContest/video_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302884615&mvs_id=313&activity_cd=snow&bmUID=1240975992135 Thanks.

that seems pretty brave...the narrow ridge, you climbed up that, on the helmet cam, it seems barely wide enough to walk..how did you ski it ? also, the glade skiing, seemed like barely enough room for a body! good stuff, just curious, does the helmet cam's lens wide-angle make things seem narrower than they are but regardless, pretty frightening track you took..beautiful.

I'm not just talking s**** but when I first viewed the footage I was disappointed because I thought it felt much narrower in real life. at the top, it was fairly flat so speed comntrol was not an issue when it was super narrow. It really was a knife edge at the very top with about 50 degree+ slopes off either side. I wanted to go back to ski the lines off to right with  a partner but never made it back.

The glades on the video were nicely spaced compared to what I grew up skiing in eastern Canada. My skis are also rather short for my height, I bought them with eastern glades in mind.

clearly steel-nerves or devil-may-care 'cause not many i think would do a traverse like that sandwiched between no-fall zones...compelling footage

Thanks!   I watch that and it makes me thankful about the new AT setup I just bought.  It also makes me wonder why I should ever buy a lift ticket again. Millions of mountains without lifts or tracks, and so little time to ski them.

Yep.

Thanks all. Glad people are enjoying the video.

This may surprise some of you even more. I was on tele's, but I only dropped the knee a few times since there was a very hard, slippery crust under those 20cm of fresh. I had a very loud scraping soundtrack for my descent. Fortunately sluffing was not an issue.

cheers

 Bump.

Thanks for all the support so far. It's down to the last day of general public voting before judges look at the top videos. If you have 1 minute I could use a little help as I'm sitting in the last position that moves on.

Thanks.

Thanks everyone who voted in the MEC video contest. I came in third place. $500 worth of gear at MEC! Woo hoo!!! Without all the votes I would have never made it to the final round of voting by judges.

Here is a link the MEC Sweet Spots page. I think the second place white water video totally kicks ass too if you have a couple of minutes.
